My account of the traveling to foreign lands. Some of the countries I have visited are USA, UK, France, Netherlands, Nepal, Jordan, Switzerland, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia etc. When I visit a foreign land I am like a kid in a candy store trying to see, taste, and bring back as many memories as possible. I try to not only share about the places I visit in the countries I go but also my connect with the people, history, culture and food of the countries visited. Come join desi Traveler around the globe. In the process I share pictures of the countries I visit, with a special focus on the people and culture of the place along with the best places to visit.

Loi Krathong Celebrations at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi As I mentioned in my earlier post Loi Krathong  festival is a visual delight and surreal experience, as  you watch thousands of lamps in small bouquets or Krathongs floating in the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok.  There are many cultural activities organised for the festival like Thai dance drama based on Hindu and Buddhist epics. While the celebrations in Thailand happen nationwide with tourists and travelers enjoying the lights and fireworks.  But just like we Indians celebrate our festivals around the world Thai people also love to celebrate [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Loi Krathong Festival Thailand

Celebrating Loi Krathong: When The Milky Way Descends To Thailand Loi Krathong or Loy Krathong is a mesmerizing festival celebrated on the full moon of the 12th month of Thai Lunar Calendar. Thousands upon thousands of Krathongs or little floats made of Banana leaves, coconut shells etc. with flowers, with a candle or lamp in the middle. As the thousands of these lamps start floating in the rivers, it seems that autumn sky has come to earth and has made rivers of Thailand its home for a night. Petra By Night - Playing With Lights & Shadows in Jordan

Petra By Night : A Fairy Tale In Arabian Nights     As I start my second walk to the Monastery in Petra during the day  I was wondering how different can Petra by night would be from Petra during the day ? I am trying to pace myself to the Al Khazneh  (Treasury ) not to rush as there is no light on the path, that is if you do not count the countless candles, flickering inside brown paper bags that caress the Siq, the natural creek in the rugged mountain that has hidden the city of Petra [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Lot's Wife-A Pillar Of Salt Near Dead Sea in Jordan

Pillar of Salt That Was Once Lot’s Wife In The Bible  Salt plays a very important role in our lives and in India it played a very significant role in the freedom movement also, when Mahatma Gandhi led the freedom fighters on Dandi March to oppose the tax on Salt. But salt stories are almost as old as civilization.  I am not sure when I first read about Lot’s Wife, but my guess is it was a story about an archaeologist finding a beautiful statue of women in the desert.  The archaeologist carries the statue in the back of a [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
