Incredible India

India Travel Blog with travel tips, stories, food and pictures of travel around India. There is so much to experience in Incredible India that one life time is just not enough. No wonder we Indians believe in reincarnation so that we can visit India again and again to cherish the billion things India has to offer from  Ghats of Varanasi to beaches of Goa and the Colors of Rajasthan to the fragrance of spices in Gods own country Kerala.  Even after visiting more than 22 states in India, I have not seen even the tip of iceberg. I continue to explore my country and share my experiences of Incredible India on my family travel blog from India as we explore one place at a time by road, by trains and by flying to the various corners of India. Come join me on this incredible Journey in Incredible India from the the snow clad Ladakh in Himalayas to the french enclave of Pondicherry in south as we go covering India from festivals to food and everything in between.

Karwa Chauth Moon

Pictures of Karwa Chauth Moon So like many years this year also the moon of Karwa Chauth decided to get late and make my dear wife wait more before she could break her fast. Though I am pretty sure all Indians know what Karwa Chauth is, but since desi Traveler gets lots of traffic from US, UK, Europe and Australia  ( though I am not sure it is the desi diasporas in these countries or natives who read desi Traveler )  it would not be wrong to give some gyan about Karwa Chauth. You see in India most [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Lakshman Sagar : A Fairy Tale in Rajasthan

Lakshman Sagar: A Fairy Tale Luxury Heritage Resort in Rustic Rajasthan There are hotels and then there are luxury hotels, once you are done with luxury what is left to experience?  May I suggest living in a fairy tale from another era? The recipe is not easy to replicate but let me try. Take an old hunting lodge of King, add a beautiful lake surrounded by OLD Banyan trees where Peacocks perch for night, add a couple of havelis, now bring some creative interior decorators who add a dash of colors and a lot of local daily use things [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Mayo College Ajmer - Students Campaign for Swachh Bharat

Mayo College Ajmer Students Campaign for a Swachh Bharat Travel always shows you something new, and I just don’t mean places. For a change  Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with a difference, instead of just the customary remembrance, speeches and cleaning the pigeon poop smeared Gandhi Statue across country, the nation decided to get out and clean the streets. With PM Narendra Modi, calling for a Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan  (Clean India – BTW Bharat is the Official name of India in Hindi, and our constitution mentions it as India that is Bharat) But the good part is that it is [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Making of Ravana in Tatarpur Village Delhi

Making of Ravana for Sale: The demon king gives livelihood to hundreds of people Navatri or the nine nights is a period when most of the country prepares for Dussehra and is Ram may (राम मय). The stories or Ram’s victory over Ravana is enacted in form of Ram Leela ( no not the Bhansali version with bullets doing ballet with Bollywood belle Dipika Padukone, but the real one with bows and arrows ) across the country, especially north India in form of stage plays with the good winning over evil. But as the good old Winston Churchill said [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Ibis Delhi Airport Hotel in Aerocity - Hotel Review

Family Trip to Ibis Delhi Airport in Aerocity I have been a bit busy in last some weeks both on personal as well as work front.  So when I got an invitation to visit Ibis Delhi Airport to come and stay my instant reaction was to say no as my elder daughter had her school exams and I was entrusted by the missus to help her with science syllabus (finally something she thinks I can do better than her or this is to make me work ?). But the lady on phone was very persistent and told me that she [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Varpu or Uruli- Reinventing a Kerala Heirloom

Varpu: From Ayurveda & making feasts to decorating hotels One of the first thing I noticed in Kerala in almost every single hotel was a round, shallow vessel filled with water and flowers floating on it. Now it was nothing new as now it is a common practice to find such vessels or Varpu in many places in India. But I had no idea that this tradition also started in God’s Own Country. But like so many things Varpu has also undergone a metamorphosis. Originally  Varpu, a large cauldron made from cast bronze was used to make Ayurveda Medicines [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Delhi Street Art - Hanuman jee and a few other thoughts

Hanuman Jee  in Street Art  Let us once again visit Street Art in Delhi, this time a more structured tiled fresco created in a subway to cross the busy Baba Khadak Singh Marg opposite the ancient Hanuman Mandir and the ever popular Coffee house run by DTTDC. Now acronyms are supposedly designed to help you escape long words and tongue twister, this DTTDC acronym succeeds in doing just the opposite, it is not only a tongue twister but also lazily expands to Delhi Tourism and Travel Development Corporation (or something similar). Don’t agree with me: Try saying DTTDC DTTDC [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
