Incredible India

India Travel Blog with travel tips, stories, food and pictures of travel around India. There is so much to experience in Incredible India that one life time is just not enough. No wonder we Indians believe in reincarnation so that we can visit India again and again to cherish the billion things India has to offer from  Ghats of Varanasi to beaches of Goa and the Colors of Rajasthan to the fragrance of spices in Gods own country Kerala.  Even after visiting more than 22 states in India, I have not seen even the tip of iceberg. I continue to explore my country and share my experiences of Incredible India on my family travel blog from India as we explore one place at a time by road, by trains and by flying to the various corners of India. Come join me on this incredible Journey in Incredible India from the the snow clad Ladakh in Himalayas to the french enclave of Pondicherry in south as we go covering India from festivals to food and everything in between.

Evil Eye In India - Nazar Battu as seen in Bazaar

Buri Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala-Evil Eye Guy Your Face Black Evil Eye Guy Your Face Black or Buri Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala is an old saying in this country. Racist to the core as it marks that evil guys are black, or perhaps our desi obsession with all things fair and lovely. Whatever be the reason I am nobody to go into the merits /demerits of the saying all I can say is that it is a ubiquitous in India from the back of the trucks and buses to day to day conversations and folklore.Though present in [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Beautiful Rocks of Hyderabad Every city in the world has man made monuments as its heritage, but Hyderabad, the only city in the world where billions of year old Rocks have been given heritage status, due to tireless efforts by Society to Save rocks. Now when one hears a rock one may wonder what is so great about rock it is not a living thing so what is the fuss all about.Let me try to use my limited knowledge to build a case for saving the rocks of Hyderabad. The Hedgehog of Forest Rest House in Tal Chapar Rajasthan

The mysterious little Hedgehog of Forest Rest House Tal Chapar Rajasthan   Let me be honest the moment the word Forest Rest house comes to my mind, a rickety old bungalow with no power and plumbing comes to mind, with an old Chowkidar with a lantern who does not cast a shadow completing the picture. So when Shreeram MV of Darter informed me that we will be staying in Forest Rest House in Tal Chapar Rajasthan, I was mentally prepared to rough it out in the middle of the jungle. Surrounded by beautiful Indian acacia trees with fragrant yellow flowers, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Thali for lunch in Rural Rajasthan in Tal Chapar

Lunch in Rural Rajasthan- A Thali to be cherished   On our second day during the Tal Chapar visit, Mr. Poonia was kind enough to take us to a section that technically is outside of the sanctuary, but has a lot of rare birds coming.  The challenge is this section is near mines where limestone and other minerals are being constantly taken out, leading to loss of vegetation and habitat for the birds. Fortunately no new mines are being allowed in the area and hopefully, the current ones will also be stopped soon. Just look at the picture of the Butterflies and [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Journey as A Rang De Volunteer

Traveling As a Rang De Volunteer A wise man once said, “The Journey is the destination”. Why I quote this? Because not all journeys should have a destination, some of them should and are taken for the purpose of the journey and not for seeing a particular place or site. One such journey I took some time back as a volunteer with Rang De. For those who are not familiar with Rang De but want to do something for this world, I strongly recommend you visit the website of Rang De.  Still, I would like to give a small primer about Rang De over here, it was founded by Ram [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

An Evening At Taramati Baradari Hyderabad

An Evening Photo Walk at Taramati Baradari Hyderabad Last time when I visited Taramati Baradari with my kids we were not able to take pictures during the night as it was raining a little and the lights that illuminate the monument were not switched on.So when our photo walk club HWS organized a walk to Taramati Baradari I was hoping it would be in evening, as most of the photo walk organized are during the day. Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake in Ananthagiri Hills

Visit To Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad & Nagasamudram Lake Hyderabad is one of the prominent cities on the Deccan Plateau one of the good things about Hyderabad is that its surroundings are still more or less rustic and just 20 Kilometers outside of the city and Mother Nature welcomes you with open arms. The city is close to small hills that though fighting with the sand and stone mafia still are beautiful in their own rights. But in this post, we will visit Ananthagiri hills in Vikarabad, specifically the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple  Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake. Only about [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

This is one flight I will remember for a long time. The post is a bit long hope you will read it till end. I have always believed travelling is not about reaching the destination, but the Journey is the Destination. I am not sure who first came up with this quote, but I am neither ashamed to copy this nor I am scared as I am pretty sure it is not copywrited.  So recently while returning from Tal Chappar in Rajasthan I took a flight from Delhi to Hyderabad and for a change I decided to keep [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
