Osmania University: A Nizam Era Landmark of Hyderabad

Recently my friend and photographer Ganesan P visited Osmania University on a special request from me.   I requested Ganesan to visit the same and click some pictures.  So here are some pictures of Osmania University, how it looks today. This post is a very special one for emotional reasons, as the pictures were taken by Ganesan on my request to be sent to an old student of University who can not visit the same due to old age and visa issues.

I am sure many things have changed from the time Osmania University was set up in Old Hyderabad, but what is good to see is that both the students and the University have made a place for themselves not only in  Hyderabad but around the world as a world-class institute. During some of the photo-walks in Hyderabad many a time I have met students who have come as far as central Asian countries like Turkmenistan to study in Osmania University. While mostly we read about our educational institutes only when some political activities happen let us not forget that the main purpose of a University is to spread education and not politics. The nostalgia with which old timers from the University talk about the ” Good OLD Days” is to be seen to be believed in. Actually, that is how this post idea was generated as one of the Old students who now lives abroad and wanted to see how his University looks after so many years.

Although Osmania University was set up during the Nizam Era, today it is one of the modern Universities in India and its students are spread across the world and hold prestigious positions in Government, Armed Forces, the private sector, and also are in top positions in many MNC companies in the USA. So if you know any former student of Osmania University who has not been to Hyderabad for some time feel free to share this post with them. Many thanks to Ganesan P for going and clicking these pictures, and also to Bhavana Nissima who initially messaged me if some pictures can be clicked at the university for the old student who misses his Alma Mater very much. Well, what can I say I just further requested another friend and the result is this post.

Are you an alumnus of Osmania University? Do you know somebody who studied here? How about sharing the post with them and maybe they will share a nugget or two about the ” Good OLD Days ” when they spent the best years of their life learning not just course material but life itself and forging bonds that go beyond any kind of definition?
