October 2015 Calendar Desktop Wallpaper Yai Chai Mongkhon Ayutthaya, Thailand
October is here and so is our October 2015 Calendar desktop wallpaper for download, from your friendly neighborhood desi Traveler. The October calendar features the magnificent – Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, one of the biggest Buddhist Temples in the former capital city of Ayutthaya. It is here in Ayutthaya only at the Wat Mahathat, you find the famous Buddha head in tree roots.
At its peak Ayutthaya had no parallel in east or west for its magnificent palaces, great Buddhist stupas with sky-kissing Chedis ( sprires) , visible from miles on the Chao Phraya river. Just imagine you are a poor European sailor ( yes poor European Sailor remember we are talking about middle ages ), tired of your journey across sea, your teeth are bleeding due to scurvy, your captain has promised you unheard of riches but all you have seen so far is endless ocean and in some islands with coconut trees. Then as your ship sails upstream in Chao Phraya, one fine morning on the horizon appear the golden Chedis of these temples taller than any building ever seen by the poor bloke. His eyes can not believe what he is seeing, because in-front of him is El Dorado or the city of gold that he has heard about in countless fables. But European ships were not allowed all the way to the city and had to anchor at an area designated for them.
But who was to know that Ayutthaya was more at danger from the Burmese up north and not the Europeans coming from far west. Anyways we will talk about the temples of Ayutthaya some other day, in the mean time please feel free to download the October 2015 desktop calendar and you are more than welcome to share it with your friends and family on Facebook, twitter etc.
