Beach Cricket In Pondicherry

I was walking in evening on a beach in Pondicherry, when I saw these boys playing cricket, the unofficial national game of India. This is a common pass time for boys in India, to play cricket on any open space. While watching them I was very happy to see that the boys are happy and enjoying life to the fullest. They were not rich, and must have been kids of local fishermen as there were a lot of fishing nets and boats nearby. The devastating effects of the Tsunami in Pondicherry were still visible nearby in form of dead trees and a small memorial. These boys must have been very small at that time and today had no time to live in the past they were enjoying the present to the fullest.

Lets Play Ball- Beach Boys Ball Bat and Boat

They did not have proper shoes or other equipment to play cricket. But they did have that infectious laughter that made me stop and take notice. They were so engrossed in their game that they  had no time to notice that I am taking their pictures. Suddenly I could not stay aloof from their laughter and energy and soon started cheering for them.  You see you need not be a buxom blonde to be a cheerleader, you can be struggling blogger and still be a great cheerleader, provided you have the right team to cheer for. I have gone on the beach to click some pictures but I got more than that, a very basic lesson in life that you don’t need zing bang to be happy in life all you need is a bat, a ball and a friend whom  you can call and say ” Lets play ball”. Who needs IPL when you have friends to play cricket with ? Oh yes if you have a beach to yourself with a boat it sure helps!

  1. Is it Paradise Beach? Paradise beach is a part of an island across the Chunnambar backwaters on the outskirts of Pondicherry… Last time I also saw some young people playing football on the island beach…

Here is how you can reach Paradise beach island: http://trekkerpedia.com/2014/05/pondicherry-chunnambar-backwaters-boating-paradise-beach/
