Hyperlapse Video Of Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh

Note from desi Traveler:

This is a special contribution by avid traveler couple Debarup and Tina, who traveled in Spiti and Kinnaur and made this unique Hyperlapse video painstakingly over many days. Over to Debarup where he shares his experience of traveling in Spiti Valley and how they made this Hyperlapse Video in Spiti.

Whenever I close my eyes, I can see snow-capped mountains around me. I always want to visit high passes, valleys, and experience every curve of it. This was a reason why I always wanted a life partner who can understand my passion, love to travel and a nature lover. Guess what! I’ve found someone like this. Meet my wife, Tina. We are traveling together since 2013.

Recently we went to Kinnaur and Spiti Valley. I had a plan to make a hyperlapse video but didn’t have the concept in my mind that time. I was filming vlog randomly on my wife along with the hyperlapse photography. The outcome was very good. So I thought to make something inspiring.

I think in this video the girl is representing all the other girls who want to travel freely. As it’s a dream for most of the girls to explore new places, mountains and want to live in nature, but still confused whether they leave or not, thinking about the consequences, they are afraid about the trip that they have full desire to go. This video can inspire them to go and travel on their own, like we say “Just go, don’t think too much”.

Where and How I made this Hyperlapse Video?

This video is technically a Hyperlapse photography along with some video footages. I believe this is the first time anyone attempts a hyperlapse video in Spiti Valley and Kinnaur.

What is Hyperlapse Photography &  How it is different from Timelapse Video

I know many of you already familiar with the term called “Timelapse”. It is nothing but a sequence of a series of images which are taken at fixed intervals. You can also watch one of my Ladakh time-lapse videos here.

Now what is hyperlapse, well in an easy way if you say, it is a timelapse which is hyper! Just kidding :). Well, hyperlapse is the same technique like timelapse but here the camera is moving and maintaining the same distance in-between each click with fixed intervals. Sometimes it is also called “shoot – move – shoot” technique. You can search hyperlapse on YouTube and get some of the excellent hyperlapse videos there.

This hyperlapse has been made with over 1000 images. Most of the hyperlapse photos and vlogs were taken in Chitkul Village, Kalpa, Nako Village, Mudh, Tabo, Komic Village. I hope you guys like the video.

Why Travel To Spiti Valley?

In 2016 we experienced Ladakh and that road trip was unforgettable. During our travel we made our next big road trip plan to Spiti Valley. Spiti Valley is also known as little Ladakh of Himachal Pradesh. The trans-Himalayan region is my personal choice as I love the valleys. Also during the Spiti Tour, you can visit many high altitude villages like Komik, Kibber, Chicham etc. As Spiti is located in the trans-Himalayan region, the whole place is surrounded by many mountain ranges and traversed by the main line of Himalayas. It is the land of many contrasts with barren beauties of nature.

How to reach Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh?

You can reach Spiti from Manali crossing Kunzum Pass and also from Shimla crossing Kinnaur. I choose the second route, though it was the second time I was visiting Kinnaur region. It was a revisit after 9 years and I was super excited to visit Sarahan, Sangla, Chitkul village and Kalpa. It was a worth visiting. This time I was able to very close to the local people. The cherry on the cake was the village in Kinnaur was Nako Village. I really want to visit this village once again.

After visiting Kinnaur when we entered Spiti region we saw the structure of mountains changed in a different dimension.

What was our route plan in Spiti Valley?

Nako Village – Giu Monastery – Tabo – Dhankar Village – Mudh Village in another valley called Pin Valley – Kaza – Langza – Komik – Kibber – Chicham – Chandratal
