Buransh Flowers Bring A Crimson Himalayan Spring in Uttarakhand

For The Love Of Mother Nature Let A Billion Buransh Bloom First the prolog by desi Traveler: For me, it was ” OMG ” moment at first sight. On a trek, during my college days, we were introduced to Rhododendron or Buransh flowers in full glory.  As they say, Himalayas were never the same for me. While most of us love the pristine white peaks smiling at us, I like to add a dash of wild Himalayan colors to the canvas to complete the picture, and nothing, let me repeat NOTHING adds colors to a Himalayan Spring that a [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

India that is Bharat & a River called Indus

Confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers Indian constitution, Article 1(1) says, “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.” This is the only provision in the Constitution on how this country be called for official and unofficial purposes. Unofficially, both in India as well as outside in India in many geographies like the Middle East, Central Asia etc. India is also referred as “Hindustan”. Many people consider it to be mentioning Hindu as a religion but the truth is both India and Hindustan are derived from one of the mightiest river in the world – Indus or Sindhu as [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

September 2016 Calendar Desktop Wallpaper - Dhankar Lake Spiti

Download September 2016 Desktop Calendar Wallpaper Dear wonderful readers, for the month of September 2016 calendar let me present you the emerald waters of Dhankar Lake in Spiti. Earlier in the year, I have shared an image of Chandratal Lake in Spiti, that now has camping facilities and you can take a vehicle almost up to a kilometer to the lake. The good thing about the smaller but equally alluring Dhankar Lake is that hardly anybody treks to it though it is only about 2 hours climb  from Dhankar Monastery in Spiti.  The path is not very walk friendly [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Naropa Festival Leh the right reason to visit Ladakh in 2016 First thing first- Irrespective of  the label you restrict yourself to – Traveler, Tourist, Pilgrim, Solo, Group, Family, Gali-Mohalla or Panchayati traveler please do yourself a favor and stop saying, shouting  and /or wishing “ I want to get Lehed” “ Finally I got Lehed after dreaming about it ever since I saw 3 Idiots ” And then there are those who visit a slightly so called off beat destination where only locals normally go and then beat their chest like King Kong on Empire States Building – “ I [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Musings from McLeod Ganj - The Rahi On Road Trip to Himachal

Stories from Rahi On Road Trip to Kangra in Himachal   We were not supposed to be in McLeod Ganj, but for some reason, we  reached McLeod Ganj and decided to explore the overcrowded Bazaar of McLeod Ganj. We visited the Dalali Lama Temple, haggled with vendors, looked at all the eye candy around us, tried to flirt with a few, clicked a lot of horrible pictures that would never be put to any use.  After being a tourist in McLeod Ganj, in Himachal Pradesh, we were rushing to our next stop, famished we zeroed on a Pizza Joint [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Trekking to Maheshwari Kund Munsyari Kumaon

An Easy trek in Kumaon to Maheshwari Kund Munsyari I no longer am much of a long distance hiker anymore, but I also try not to miss short hikes like I did in Spiti to Dhankar Lake.  While Uttarakhand has many famed treks for you to go for like Valley of Flowers, Roopkund, Pindari Glacier etc., what I did was a simple climb to a sacred lake called Maheshwari Kund or Meesar Kund in the local dialect. The important thing to note here is that our ancestors knew the importance of water bodies like lakes and rivers hence they [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

desi Traveler Goes To Kunzum Pass

A Day At Kunzum Pass: My experience & pictures from Kunzum La So desi Traveler went to Kunzum, or rather I should say I passed from Kunzum Pass on my way to and back from Spiti. You need to pass two main passes on the way to Spiti, via Manali one is Rohtang La and second is Kunzum La. Technically, height wise Kunzum is bigger and higher and better to photograph. But Rohtang is more notorious as it is closer to Manali and our tourists are happy to visit it after hours of struggling in traffic and then play in [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
