Rural Tourism Complex Bhoodan Pochampally Village

Visit to Bhoodan Pochampally Village- Part II In my last post on Pochampally village, the home of world-famous Pochampally Sarees and other dress material,  I focused on the beautiful rangolis that people have made outside their homes and shops for celebrating Sankranthi. In this post, we will visit the Rural Tourism Complex, of Bhoodan Pochampally Village, Nalgonda District, in Telangana. It is about 60 KM from Hitech city in Hyderabad and if you start early you can reach Bhoodan Pochampally in about 1.5 hours.  As Pochampally was the first village where a rich landlord donated his surplus land to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Baobab Tree and Ranganath Temple Nanakramguda Village Hyderabad

Old Baobab Tree & Rangnath Temple Nanakramguda Hyderabad Before Chandra Babu Naidu said “ Let there be Investments in IT”, Nanakramguda was a sleepy village with its only claim to fame being 400-year-old  Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple. Today it is difficult to find from the main road as it is surrounded by glass faced IT parks. But my reason for visiting Nanankramguda village was not to visit the temple, though I did click some pictures from outside of the temple. No, I am not an atheist; I will tell you why I did not enter the temple later in the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Hyderabad Bloggers Meet-Using Social Media for Change

Some time ago I wrote a post on how blogging changed my life it was more of introspection. What I missed was how we bloggers can be catalysts or change agents using our reach in social media to bring social change. I have no qualms about the influence we bloggers have and we will never get to taste the power that is poison, nor will we be able to replicate the Arab Spring. What I am writing in this post emerged from the Hyderabad Bloggers meet that I attended last Sunday, which was meticulously planned and organized by Subhorup [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Rangoli Making For Sankranti Celebrations in Bhoodan Pochampally Village

Traditional Rural Rangoli Designs from Pochampally Village Telangana Bhoodan Pochampally has its place in history as the birthplace of Bhoodan movement (donating land). It was here in 1951 during the visit of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, a rich Zamindar (landlord), pledged to donate 250 acres of his land to landless people. Thus starting the Bhoodan movement in India, hard to believe that this happened in the very country where everybody from ex-Presidents to son and son in laws of those in Power is regularly involved in land grabbing. But in this post, we will focus on Rangoli pictures taken on [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

An Evening At Taramati Baradari Hyderabad

An Evening Photo Walk at Taramati Baradari Hyderabad Last time when I visited Taramati Baradari with my kids we were not able to take pictures during the night as it was raining a little and the lights that illuminate the monument were not switched on.So when our photo walk club HWS organized a walk to Taramati Baradari I was hoping it would be in evening, as most of the photo walk organized are during the day. It seems lady luck was smiling on me and this photo walk was organized on Saturday evening rather than Sunday Morning as most photo walks [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake in Ananthagiri Hills

Visit To Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad & Nagasamudram Lake Hyderabad is one of the prominent cities on the Deccan Plateau one of the good things about Hyderabad is that its surroundings are still more or less rustic and just 20 Kilometers outside of the city and Mother Nature welcomes you with open arms. The city is close to small hills that though fighting with the sand and stone mafia still are beautiful in their own rights. But in this post, we will visit Ananthagiri hills in Vikarabad, specifically the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple  Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake. Only about [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Birds Around Us in Hyderabad

How to get Birds around us in Hyderabad back Some time back I wrote about the project I was working to photograph birds around us in Hyderabad in our apartment complex and the lake near it called Peerancheru lake. This year monsoon has been good and the lake is overflowing with water, to the extent that I spotted some fishermen trying to catch fish in a makeshift raft in waters where they earlier use to just walk in the shallow waters. Monsoons bring an extra supply for insects which form a major diet source for birds especially when they have [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
