Different Hues of 18 Meter Tall Buddha Statue in Hussain Sagar

18 Meter Tall Buddha Statue in Hussain Sagar  Every city and era has its icons, some old some new. Take Delhi – it has the Red Fort and Qutub Minar from the earlier days and Lotus Temple from the modern days. Similarly, we have London with its ancient Palaces like Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge representing the middle ages, but it also has London Eye which has also become an icon for modern London. Our own Hyderabad has Golconda Fort and Charminar as its icons from the past and now we have the 18 Meter high statue of Buddha in [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

My Experiments in Low Light Photography With Slow Shutter Speed

Practicing Low Light Photography with Slow Shutter Speed Using Tripod Though I am just a hobby photographer, I enjoy  experimenting with my camera and lens. Some time back I wrote a post about Hussain Sagar Tank Bund in Hyderabad, when we went there with Hyderabad Weekend Shoots to take pictures of the 18 Meter tall Buddha statue and other things there.  While I am no pro photographer and normally just takes pictures mainly for Desi Traveler blog, I just love to try new things with the camera. Same evening we also tried our hands with low light night photography. The idea [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

An Evening Walk at Hussain Sagar Tank Bund

Evening Walk For Low Light Photography at Hussain Sagar Tank Bund Tank Bund on the Banks of Hussain Sagar is the informal city center of Twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Every city slowly gets its own hangout place or the city center where the citizens and the tourists and travelers converge to soak the essence of a city. In Delhi for me it was  De Pauls at Janpath the Gehri Route in Chandigarh sector 10 filled that void in otherwise Sarkari city. Mumbai has many informal meeting places like Juhu Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, and Queens Necklace etc, and Kolkata [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Watching Flamingos In Gandipet Lake Hyderabad, India

Watching Flamingos At Gandipet Lake in Hyderabad, India   Recently we went to look for Flamingos in Gandipet or Osman Sagar one of the bigger lakes among the lakes encircling Hyderabad, some of these lakes are natural and others were specially made or enlarged during the reign of the Nizams to ensure water security. Over period lakes like Gandipet, Manjeera, Pocharam, Ameenpur, Shamirpet, Peerancheru etc have become a natural sanctuary of local as well as migrant birds. These visits were part of a GHAC Nature club and we visited Gandipet Lake twice in last one month. My main purpose was to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Rolls Royce in Old Hyderabad

Rolls Royce The Symbol Of Wealth A Rolls Royce is the symbol of wealth, wealthy folks around the world love to flaunt their Rolls Royce. Religious gurus in India, dictators in Africa and South America, Sheikh’s in Middle East and Royalty in Europe all love to move around in Rolls Royce’s.  So when I saw this black Rolls Royce in the old and relatively poor part of Hyderabad I instantly clicked it and submitting it for Thursday Challenge where the theme this week is “RICH” (Money, Gold, Wealth, Expensive Things, Fancy Things,…). The erstwhile ruler of  Hyderabad Nizam of Hyderabad [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Movement Called GHAC - Great Hyderabad Adventure Club

GHAC- Volunteers make the difference Although Hyderabad is home to some of the top names in Indian sports like Mohammad Azharuddin, Sania Mirza, P. Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, the city is still known for its Nizami culture and laid back attitude. The idea of action for a typical Hyderabadi is to go and climb the stairs of Charminar or Charminaran as the locals call it, and when feeling a bit more adventurous visit the Golconda fort with relatives visiting from other parts of the country. One of the things that I was warned as a traveler when I moved to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Visit To Ethipothala Waterfalls near Nagarjuna Sagar OK, the Doordarshan generations promise me you will not think about the Liril girl while reading this post on Ethipothala Waterfalls near Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, and non-Doordarshan generations please do not Google it. Damn, just you won’t listen to me. Well, I can’t blame you for a generation or two of Indians the waterfalls are synonymous with Liril Girl Karen Lunel, who changed the way we take a bath under the waterfalls or dream about it. In reality, it is not all that glamorous and actually very tough to take a [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Journey By Bus From Hyderabad To Mahbubnagar

Reaching Koil Konda Fort by Bus from Hyderabad to Mahbubnagar Given a choice my first preference to go anywhere is take an overnight train, sleep in the train and arrive at destination next day. If the journey is too long, then I    take one of the low cost airlines, only on very few occasions I have dared to take a Bus to go anywhere, like when I went to Hampi in a Volvo bus. So this weekend when I joined the GHAC trek to Koil Konda fort in Mahbubnagar district, I was a little skeptical, to take the bus [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
