A Morning Visit to Kondapur Botanical Garden with GHAC Nature
I had participated in the first bird watching trip organized by GHAC long back, it was in Kondapur botanical garden, Hyderabad, at that point the botanical garden was not in very good shape due to extreme summer.
Sunbird Enjoying Nectar |
I was pleasantly surprised when we visited again with GHAC nature in the morning. Monsoons have changed the complexion of the gardens. It was lush green every where sprinkled with colorful flowers, and the little pond in the corner was full of water with common Coots and little Grebs blissfully enjoying the swimming and breakfast, while a chameleon basked in the morning sun.
We ventured into the wooded area behind the maintained precincts of the garden where nature is allowed to take its own course. We were lucky to spot peacocks, kites, sunbirds, bulbuls, scaly breasted munia, Ashy prinia and a host of butterfly species.
The Millipede And The Students |
The highlight of the trip was a large millipede that we spotted and he decided to befriend Arun Vasireddy our group leader. The millipede blissfully played on his face and then crawled on the arms of one of the American student who was with the group. Though I would strictly recommend against picking wild creatures unless you know what you are picking as some of them can be quiet poisonous. I was also able to click some pictures of the elusive Sunbird at botanical garden.
