One Night At Bangalore Airport

Bangalore Airport at Night Not in very distant past, I had to spend a night at Bangalore airport, not that I wanted to but I had to.  I was returning from Singapore, as I was on a sponsored trip by Tiger Air so they have booked me via Bangalore from where they fly to Singapore Changi Airport. I had a layover for 5-6 hours before my connecting flight.  Long story short I had an early morning flight from Bangalore or Bengalururro or Bengalorouo or whatever the polishitians politicians have named the garden city, either way, they have screwed up the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

desi goes for Off-Road activity with JK Tyre- Ranger

4×4 Off Road Adventure with JK Tyres- Ranger Regular readers of desi Traveler will remember that desi loves to drive to distant places. Indeed the genesis of desi Traveler blog started as a driving blog, but not your everyday driving blog but more of a family travel blog with a focus on Car and Kids, before it evolved into all things desi. Regular readers of desi Traveler will also note that desi Traveler at times likes to address himself in third person, well this is not desi’s fault, that is the kind of high you get on a road trip [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar

Restoration of Gobindgarh Fort : A heritage reclaimed On all my previous visits to Amritsar, I wanted to visit Gobindgarh fort, but each time I was discouraged by anybody whom I asked for directions “ Gobindgarh Fort ? Wahan Kuch Nahi hai, Kya karoge waha ja kar”  क़िला गोबिंदगढ़ ? वहां कुछ नहीं है क्या करोगे वहां जा कर Or there is nothing in Gobindgarh Fort , what will you do there ? And as a naïve tourist, who  is happy to be see what he is shown I missed visiting Gobindgarh fort each time. But as I always [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Wagah Border Ceremony Where Emotions Run High

My Experience of Watching Wagah Border Parade I first saw Wagah Border Ceremony with wife jee and daughter and it was a nostalgic trip for us as across the barbed wires and imposing gates she could see Pakistan.  After that, I have watched  Wagah Border Ceremony many times and each time I come back with a different feeling. Situated just 31.5 KM from the holy city of Amritsar, Wagah is not just a border it represents everything that the two nations theory based on religion proposed and succeeded during the Indian freedom movement.  What were one people for more [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Amritsar Heritage Walk - Amritsar Beyond Religion & Food

desi goes with Davinder Singh on Amritsar Heritage Walk This is my first Amritsar Heritage Walk and I am looking at a faint sliver of the sky gives me a weak smile as I stretch my neck to yogic dimensions, as my eyes go wide at all the heritage looking back at me. There is something historical all around me in these narrow bylanes of Amritsar, not the kind of history you find in textbooks but living, breathing, smiling, and unfortunately neglected and deteriorating heritage. I look up to intricately carved wooden balconies with designs from Shekhawati and Europe side [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Favorite Travel Blogs of 2015 : A desi Travel Digest We may be late with our desi Travel digest for December 2015, but let me assure you the wait was worth it. For those who are yet to read monthly desi digest here is a quick update:  Monthly desi digest is a round up of my favorite travel blog posts from around the world, with a clear bias towards desi travel bloggers. So far I was using my discretion for the same but for the year end 2015 special I thought why restrict desi digest only to what I [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Virasat-e-Khalsa

A Museum of Sikh History: Virasat-e-Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib Looks can be deceiving, is an old saying and my first reaction on looking at Virasat-e-Khalsa complex was, that it does not look anything like a museum of Sikh culture and history. Only once you enter and reach the top-level after checking all the exhibits that you get a panoramic view of the complex and surroundings, by now you are already in awe of the exhibits and a short tour of the youngest and most reformist faith born in India. You will be forgiven to think initially that the design [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

How To Get Your 2015 Best Nine Images of Instagram Free

Follow up on the Instagram post : 2015 Best nine images  As I mentioned in my earlier post on Instagram, that I am taking my baby steps to learn Instagram, so I spent a good deal of time checking all my posts on Instagram to find the top 10 posts on Instagram by virtue of likes for the same.  It was not easy, as Instagram was slow as well as I had to keep a manual tab on the pictures. Guess what there is a much simpler way to do the same, with which I generated my top 9 pictures of 2015 on [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
