A Road Trip from Hyderabad to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam

A Road Trip to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam from Hyderabad There are many nice trips from Hyderabad that you can take, we visited Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and stayed in Haritha Vijay Vihar hotel situated right on the bank of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam reservoir. Nagarjuna Sagar is one of the largest masonry dams in the world and supplies water and electricity to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.  Our visit happened around Christmas when we were looking for some family time together.  It is very easy to book rooms in all APTDC properties using their website and you can pay online and [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Fishing In Peerancheru Lake near PBEL City Hyderabad

=================================================================================== =================================================================================== This year Hyderabad was blessed with some very good rains though it is a bit late in the year to write about the rains more so as I have already written about the same earlier. All the lakes like Hussain Sagar, Gandipet, Osman sagar, ICRISAT, Pocharam Dam etc in and around city are full of water. Even a small lake like the Peerancheru, next to PBEL city and APPA Junction is full of water. This brings me the topic of this post. We were visiting Peerancheru lake near PBEL City, and I saw these 2 guys fishing [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Hedgehog of Forest Rest House in Tal Chapar Rajasthan

The mysterious little Hedgehog of Forest Rest House Tal Chapar Rajasthan   Let me be honest the moment the word Forest Rest house comes to my mind, a rickety old bungalow with no power and plumbing comes to mind, with an old Chowkidar with a lantern who does not cast a shadow completing the picture. So when Shreeram MV of Darter informed me that we will be staying in Forest Rest House in Tal Chapar Rajasthan, I was mentally prepared to rough it out in the middle of the jungle. Surrounded by beautiful Indian acacia trees with fragrant yellow flowers, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Thali for lunch in Rural Rajasthan in Tal Chapar

Lunch in Rural Rajasthan- A Thali to be cherished   On our second day during the Tal Chapar visit, Mr. Poonia was kind enough to take us to a section that technically is outside of the sanctuary, but has a lot of rare birds coming.  The challenge is this section is near mines where limestone and other minerals are being constantly taken out, leading to loss of vegetation and habitat for the birds. Fortunately no new mines are being allowed in the area and hopefully, the current ones will also be stopped soon. Just look at the picture of the Butterflies and [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Salt Pans of Tal Chapar Rajasthan

A visit to the Salt Pans near Tal Chapar Wild Life Sanctuary   Q: what is common between Mahatma Gandhi, Roman Soldiers, Timbuktu, Tal Chapar and Angelina Jolie? Well you guessed it right it is Salt. I know the title of the post is a give away. White Eared Bulbul Gandhijee had a close relationship with Salt production in India as he led   the march to Dandi in the cost of Gujarat to protest against the salt monopoly and excessive tax by the colonial masters in India. That march on March 10, 1930 changed the course of Independence [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Cunning Fox of Tal Chhapar Rajasthan

Observing Animal Behaviour in Wild- Encounter between a Fox & an Eagle  The Cunning Fox Ever since our childhood, we keep on reading about the smaller carnivores of the jungles of India. The Wolf is portrayed as a ruthless killer, the jackal as sly, and the hyena as despicable all stereotypes worthy of further debate and investigation. But it is the fox that takes a special place in jungle lore and has maximum stories dedicated to her. From the fox that could not reach the sour grapes to the Chalak Lomdee ( चालाक लोमड़ी or The Clever Fox) in Aesop’s fables. Then [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Night At Taramati Baradari Resort Hyderabad

A Night spent at Taramati Baradari Resort Hyderabad with our kids Once your kids start going to school you have to plan your holidays as per their school calendar. For some time our elder one has been going to school even on Saturdays thus we were not able to take any jaunts with kids that we typically do now and then. So a few weeks ago I decided to go for a short vacation but just did not have time or energy to go on a long drive, so we decided to stay for a night at the Taramati [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Durgam Cheruvu With GHAC Nature

Rediscovering Nature in the IT Corridor of Hyderabad at Durgam Cheruvu The Birders at Durgan Cheruvu Durgam Cheruvu was named because it meant Secret Lake and was very difficult to both find and reach. During the times of Qutub Shahi Sultans the lake was surrounded by jungle so thick that except for few locals nobody knew of its existence. Its water was pure and potable, so the sultans built secret system of pipe lines to take the water from the lake to the Golconda Fort around  10 KM away to the top of the fort using a very innovative [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

View From Our Balcony II

I have been travelling for some time both for business and for clicking pictures. All this while I have been so busy that did not have time to look out of balcony of our apartment. Is is not surprising that one travels to far off places to click pictures but totally ignores beauty around us?  Today morning was a especially beautiful day and I decided to stand in balcony for some time with my camera. Hyderabad has been blessed with really good monsoon this year and the surroundings to our apartment has changed totally. The Sufi Shrine The Blooms In Garden [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
