Photographing Birds In Backyard

Tips on watching & Photographing birds in Backyard It is not possible to visit wildlife parks regularly for many reasons, time and money just two of them. So how does one quench the thirst to click nature around you? Well for me I look around photographing birds in the backyard. Technically it is not backyard as I live in a high-rise building that has emerged from the ashes of golden Sarson Ke Khet. I have to live with this burden for a long time but I try to compensate by doing my bit for our little friends around us, like [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Morning Drive to Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary & The Last Sarson Ke Khet of Gurgaon

The last of Sarson Ke Khet Near Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary That I regularly go bird watching at  Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary near Gurgaon is old news. While I enjoy bird watching there with my friends and family at Sultanpur, each visit also now makes me a bit sad. As we approach the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary and the Basai Wetlands that are on the way, the thoughts about future of these birding heavens make me gloomy because of the future of the Sanctuary, as well as the Basai Wetlands, is not secure. For me, the visit to nature is all about the ecosystem, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Lohri Celebrations

Pictures of Bonfires of Lohri Festival In India, most of our festivals are as per the lunar calendar like Holi, Diwali among Hindus and Eid among Muslims.  But there are a few festivals in India that are celebrated as per the Solar calendar. I have share pictures of Sankranti or Pongal as it is called in South India some time back.  But Sankrant / Sankranthi / Pongal is celebrated in different parts of India and other places like Nepal and Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara Rashi (Capricorn) on its celestial path.  But [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Baby Steps To Learning Instagram

Most liked pictures on Instagram by desi Traveler I am a novice and not very active on Instagram, though I joined the same last year, I have not been active in updating my Instagram feed for almost a year after creating the account. But 2015 was a good year to learn a thing or two about Instagram.  Today  Instagram has become one of the most popular social sharing sites for sharing your images and there are more than 300 million active users of Instagram. Although there are some inherent shortcomings in Instagram that I do hope they take care in future. [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Goa In Reflections

Memories of Goa in Reflections As the mercury dips and the elusive sunlight filters through the canopy of trees, my body wants to go back to the sunny beaches of Goa and watch the reflection of the Sun taking a dip in the Arabian Sea. But here I am in my home, trying to keep warm by guzzling endless cups of ginger tea. So let me go back and remember the sunny Goa from 2 weeks ago where I went for a launch of Zica, the new car from Tata Motors. I have already shared some pictures of the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Bansphatak Flower Market Varanasi

Colors of Varanasi : Bansphatak Flower Market If there is one city that truly echoes a mini India minus the attempts to scale the walls of modernity clinging to the roots that go deep in the fertile alluvial Indo-gangetic planes then it is Varanasi aka Benaras aka Kashi.  As good old Samuel Langhorne Clemens said – “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”. Well who am I to disagree with Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who has spent some good time in Varanasi and is [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Loi Krathong- Thai festival celebrated in India

Loi Krathong Celebrations at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi As I mentioned in my earlier post Loi Krathong  festival is a visual delight and surreal experience, as  you watch thousands of lamps in small bouquets or Krathongs floating in the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok.  There are many cultural activities organised for the festival like Thai dance drama based on Hindu and Buddhist epics. While the celebrations in Thailand happen nationwide with tourists and travelers enjoying the lights and fireworks.  But just like we Indians celebrate our festivals around the world Thai people also love to celebrate [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Clicking Karwa Chauth Moon

How To Photograph Karwa Chauth Moon So my experiments with photographing moon continue. Just like last year, this year also the Karwa Chauth Moon played spoilsport and defied all predictions by all the astronomy websites. But partly all the haze and dust in the sky was also to be blamed. Both me and the younger one on moon spotting duty, and were constantly coordinating with building security,  Wife jee and various astronomy sites who have predicted moon rise at exactly 20: 22 hours.  I was on rooftop much before that trying to figure out from where Mr. Moon will make [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
