4 Women Who Travel and Lead

A Special Post on Women’s day about 4 Women who travel and lead The Times They Are a-Changin’ sang Bob Dylan in 60s and trust me the times have not stopped changing since. The challenge is we as a society are not willing to accept that the patriarchal rules formed many moons ago unilaterally by men are way beyond their expiry date. There has been a lot of hue and cry in the country about safety of women traveler, and everybody and their uncle coming up with GYAN about the same.  So I thought on Women’s day why [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Superhero of Pochampally

The Superhero Of Pochampally Some time back I was in Bhoodan Pochampally Village, near Hyderabad. the main purpose of the visit was to meet and click pictures of some weavers who make the beautiful Pochampally sareers. While we were moving around the village which is a photographer’s delight and almost every corner offers some photo opportunity. I saw this guy in this wonderful superhero T Shirt as if announcing that he is going to solve the problems of this world. What do you say? Do wee need  a superhero for this world? May be it is a sign of the times when one [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Significance of Red color in India

What is the significance of Red color in India ?   Red is a very auspicious color in Indian culture. From the red saree that the bride wears on her wedding day to the red bangles, red sindoor that married Hindu women put in the parting of hair red is everywhere. A wedding invitation card is not considered complete unless it’s colored red on the corners.  In some parts of India housewives will make rangoli of white color in front of their doors but on festivals like Sakranthi they will make a special rangoli with Red as the central [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Family Fun in Coracle or Round Boats of Nagarjuna Sagar

A Joy Ride in a Coracle  in Nagarjuna Sagar Coracles ( singular- Coracle) or the round boats have been around for millenniums, Julius Caesar found the English using them during his invasion.  And while the indigenous shipbuilding industry in India was slowly decimated by the British, ( probably as an act of revenge to supply ships to American Navy for the British American war in 1812.  A little-known fact: American national anthem was written on a ship made by the Wadia Family of India) still the art of making Coracles survived. Although one wonders what happened to shipbuilding in India when just [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Pictures of Kumbh Mela Allahabad by Vijay Jata

Naga Sadhus & other pictures of Kumbh Mela Allahabad  There are a lot of things that happen only in India and it is just not possible to find a parallel of them anywhere in world. Kumbh Mela is one such relegious event. I sorely missed going to the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad due to various reasons.  I badly wanted to go, when our photography group HWS or Hyderabad Weekend Shoot were planning to go there. But as they say in India you do not go to a holy place, the holy place calls you. So when the photography group returned [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Buddhist Museum On Nagarjunakonda Island

A visit to Buddhist Museum On Nagarjunakonda Island in Nagarjuna Sagar As written in an earlier post we took the boat to Nagarjunakonda island to visit the Buddhist museum on Nagarjunakonda island. We arrived suitably shaken and stirred on the island and were a witness to the great Indian rush to get out of the boat once again. Immediately after the boat docking platform there is a steep ascent to rise to the hill, remember Konda means hill in Telugu and Nagarjunakonda means the hill of Sage Nagarjuna, which is also the name of Telugu superstar Nagarjuna who seems to be getting younger with every [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
