Women in Leadership of GHAC in Adventure and Travel

Women in Leadership: For Leadership is not gender specific It was not easy being a leader in India of yesterday. Be it politics, big business or various Woods like Bolly, Tolly, Molly you needed the right gene pool to stake your claim to the kingdom your grandpa formed,  making them all  Robin Hood, who took away from talented and distributed the loot among cousins. Things got tougher if you had an abundance of X chromosomes, as  your shot at leadership or breaking the glass ceiling was even tougher with 2X chromosomes.  Time and again we saw parents choosing a moronic [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Adventure to get some life: Outlife

Outlife brings Adventure Travel In India India has not been your conventional adventure travel market, I remember trying all kind of adventure water sports etc in 2000 in Thailand.  Most beaches in India in those days had no option of water sports. Mountaineering etc was restricted to very expensive equipment and was largely done by foreign visitors in Himalayas. But things started changing about 7-8 years ago and with coming up of Adventure Clubs in India, we learned about the options available in India too. With the awareness of adventure travel in India in almost all parts of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Watching Flamingos In Gandipet Lake Hyderabad, India

Watching Flamingos At Gandipet Lake in Hyderabad, India   Recently we went to look for Flamingos in Gandipet or Osman Sagar one of the bigger lakes among the lakes encircling Hyderabad, some of these lakes are natural and others were specially made or enlarged during the reign of the Nizams to ensure water security. Over period lakes like Gandipet, Manjeera, Pocharam, Ameenpur, Shamirpet, Peerancheru etc have become a natural sanctuary of local as well as migrant birds. These visits were part of a GHAC Nature club and we visited Gandipet Lake twice in last one month. My main purpose was to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Movement Called GHAC - Great Hyderabad Adventure Club

GHAC- Volunteers make the difference Although Hyderabad is home to some of the top names in Indian sports like Mohammad Azharuddin, Sania Mirza, P. Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, the city is still known for its Nizami culture and laid back attitude. The idea of action for a typical Hyderabadi is to go and climb the stairs of Charminar or Charminaran as the locals call it, and when feeling a bit more adventurous visit the Golconda fort with relatives visiting from other parts of the country. One of the things that I was warned as a traveler when I moved to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Journey By Bus From Hyderabad To Mahbubnagar

Reaching Koil Konda Fort by Bus from Hyderabad to Mahbubnagar Given a choice my first preference to go anywhere is take an overnight train, sleep in the train and arrive at destination next day. If the journey is too long, then I    take one of the low cost airlines, only on very few occasions I have dared to take a Bus to go anywhere, like when I went to Hampi in a Volvo bus. So this weekend when I joined the GHAC trek to Koil Konda fort in Mahbubnagar district, I was a little skeptical, to take the bus [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

4 Women Who Travel and Lead

A Special Post on Women’s day about 4 Women who travel and lead The Times They Are a-Changin’ sang Bob Dylan in 60s and trust me the times have not stopped changing since. The challenge is we as a society are not willing to accept that the patriarchal rules formed many moons ago unilaterally by men are way beyond their expiry date. There has been a lot of hue and cry in the country about safety of women traveler, and everybody and their uncle coming up with GYAN about the same.  So I thought on Women’s day why [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Beautiful Rocks of Hyderabad Every city in the world has man made monuments as its heritage, but Hyderabad, the only city in the world where billions of year old Rocks have been given heritage status, due to tireless efforts by Society to Save rocks. Now when one hears a rock one may wonder what is so great about rock it is not a living thing so what is the fuss all about.Let me try to use my limited knowledge to build a case for saving the rocks of Hyderabad. Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake in Ananthagiri Hills

Visit To Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple Vikarabad & Nagasamudram Lake Hyderabad is one of the prominent cities on the Deccan Plateau one of the good things about Hyderabad is that its surroundings are still more or less rustic and just 20 Kilometers outside of the city and Mother Nature welcomes you with open arms. The city is close to small hills that though fighting with the sand and stone mafia still are beautiful in their own rights. But in this post, we will visit Ananthagiri hills in Vikarabad, specifically the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple  Vikarabad and Nagasamudram Lake. Only about [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Bhandara for Breakfast-On way to Kanha National Park

Great Breakfast on the Way to Kanha National Park One of the little joys of traveling is discovering little joints that serve excellent food in hygienic conditions. Frequent road travelers in India will agree that it is not an easy task. You get a lot of places with food that will make your salivary glands work overtime but normally the hygiene is something you just have to ignore. Let me talk about one such little place we discovered on our trip to Kanha National park in Madhya Pradesh. This was a trip with GHAC and my friend Sunanda Mandavi was leading the group, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
