desi Attends The Thailand Tourism Festival 2017

Thailand Tourism Festival 2017 Highlights I have a soft corner for Amazing Thailand for more reasons than one. After marriage, Thailand was our first foreign trip and we visited Phuket, Pattaya, and Bangkok. This was long before I started this hobby travel blog better known as desi Traveler. One fine day I received a call from TAT New Delhi inviting me to Thailand on a media trip. Thus Thailand became my first foreign trip as a blogger giving me a chance to visit the amazing country once again and my fondness for Thailand only increasing. But there was more [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Hindu Temple Festival Parade Bali Indonesia

Apsara Spotting: Temple Festival Parade Bali Indonesia I was in my carb induced coma when I overheard it seems there is a traffic jam in front.  Lazily I opened my eyes but when I looked on the road, along with my eyes my mouth also opened and my jaw remained a prisoner of gravity.  Right in the middle of the road, on the sidewalk and almost in every direction I could see Apsaras.   I must be dreaming I told myself and tried to close my eyes, but my neuromotor coordination hit rock bottom, partly due to what I was [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Loi Krathong- Thai festival celebrated in India

Loi Krathong Celebrations at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi As I mentioned in my earlier post Loi Krathong  festival is a visual delight and surreal experience, as  you watch thousands of lamps in small bouquets or Krathongs floating in the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok.  There are many cultural activities organised for the festival like Thai dance drama based on Hindu and Buddhist epics. While the celebrations in Thailand happen nationwide with tourists and travelers enjoying the lights and fireworks.  But just like we Indians celebrate our festivals around the world Thai people also love to celebrate [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Loi Krathong Festival Thailand

Celebrating Loi Krathong: When The Milky Way Descends To Thailand Loi Krathong or Loy Krathong is a mesmerizing festival celebrated on the full moon of the 12th month of Thai Lunar Calendar. Thousands upon thousands of Krathongs or little floats made of Banana leaves, coconut shells etc. with flowers, with a candle or lamp in the middle. As the thousands of these lamps start floating in the rivers, it seems that autumn sky has come to earth and has made rivers of Thailand its home for a night. As I have observed earlier we Indians and Thais have a [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Recycled Ganesha in a Car Museum

Eco Friendly Ganesha in his Recycled Avatar Ganapati is a very special festival of India, as it is not just a festival it also has a strong association with freedom movement of India. But even before that Ganapati Utsav was celebrated during times of Shivaji Maharaj and later Peshwas of Pune. But with the fall of Peshwas in 1818, Ganapati Utsav lost significance as a public festival till revived by Lokmanya Tilak in 1893.  Tilak a well-known social reformer and freedom fighter wanted to shape Ganapati Utsav to bring like-minded people together and use the collective consciousness to fight [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Telangana is born now to work on Travel and Tourism for Job creation

Telangana Travel and Tourism Today on 2nd June 2014,  Telangana the youngest and 29th state of India is born.  Yesterday I was in markets of Hyderabad and saw the city turned into pink the colors of TRS or Telangana Rashtriya Samiti the political party that spearheaded the movement for a separate state of Telangana. But statehood is a state of mind and Telangana movement started long ago and a demand for Telangana has been decades old. With the making of Telangana Telugu people also get 2 states, just like Tamilians  have Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, Hindi speaking people more than 7, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Colors of India: The Homes In Indian Villages & Small Towns

Beautiful Colors of India in Villages and Small Towns Whenever I travel, one of my aims is to click pictures of homes, not houses but homes.  You cannot just walk into anybody’s home and click pictures; you would need to be invisible for that. As I am yet to find my invisibility cloak ala Mr. India, I am just happy clicking pictures of homes from outside.  You see for last many years we have lived in an apartment complex, where you do not have much choice on the color of exterior, but one can play with decorating interiors with [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Pictures of Kumbh Mela Allahabad by Vijay Jata

Naga Sadhus & other pictures of Kumbh Mela Allahabad  There are a lot of things that happen only in India and it is just not possible to find a parallel of them anywhere in world. Kumbh Mela is one such relegious event. I sorely missed going to the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad due to various reasons.  I badly wanted to go, when our photography group HWS or Hyderabad Weekend Shoot were planning to go there. But as they say in India you do not go to a holy place, the holy place calls you. So when the photography group returned [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
