Utsab Durga Puja in Hyderabad

Pictures of Utsab Durga Puja in Hyderabad A true hallmark of a cosmopolitan city is celebrating all the festivals, and Hyderabad is one shining example of the same. Just last month we celebrated with Lord Ganesha and this month we are all celebrating Durga Puja with Maa Durga in Hyderabad. We have a large vibrant community of Bengali Bhadralok in Twin Cities, and I was invited by my friends from Utsab Cultural Association for the Durga Puja at Telecom Nagar  Gachibowli.  Actually I would have gone even without invitation as I just love going to Pujor, this reminds me of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Comic Con Express Hyderabad India

Comic Con Express Hyderabad- The Super Heroes are coming Confession Time: I grew on a healthy staple diet of stories of superheroes in all shapes and forms. Phantom the Ghost who walks, Mandrake the Magician and Chacha Chowdhry, the man whose brain works faster than Super computer were my constant companions during my secret mission when I would save a damsel or two in distress. In those days of no Facebook and SMS and WhatsApp we gang of pre-teens had our own sophisticated network of communication and book keeping to exchange comics, decide who will buy which one [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Watching Flamingos In Gandipet Lake Hyderabad, India

Watching Flamingos At Gandipet Lake in Hyderabad, India   Recently we went to look for Flamingos in Gandipet or Osman Sagar one of the bigger lakes among the lakes encircling Hyderabad, some of these lakes are natural and others were specially made or enlarged during the reign of the Nizams to ensure water security. Over period lakes like Gandipet, Manjeera, Pocharam, Ameenpur, Shamirpet, Peerancheru etc have become a natural sanctuary of local as well as migrant birds. These visits were part of a GHAC Nature club and we visited Gandipet Lake twice in last one month. My main purpose was to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Movement Called GHAC

GHAC- Volunteers make the difference Although Hyderabad is home to some of the top names in Indian sports like Mohammad Azharuddin, Sania Mirza, P. Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, the city is still known for its Nizami culture and laid back attitude. The idea of action for a typical Hyderabadi is to go and climb the stairs of Charminar or Charminaran as the locals call it, and when feeling a bit more adventurous visit the Golconda fort with relatives visiting from other parts of country. One of the things that I was warned as a traveler when I moved to the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Evil Eye In India - Nazar Battu as seen in Bazaar

Evil Eye Guy Your Face Black —Let us begin the New Year by saying Evil Eye Guy Your Face Black. Happy New Year.Evil Eye Guy Your Face Black or Boori Nazar Wale Tera Muh Kala is an old saying in this country. Racist to the core as it marks that evil guys are black, it probably has its roots in the victorious and fair-complexioned Aryans who some consider the original racists in this country and probably on this planet. Anyways this post is not about racism it is about the Evil eye or Nazar Battu that we see almost [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Night spent at Taramati Baradari Resort Hyderabad with our kids Once your kids start going to school you have to plan  your holidays as per their school calendar. For some time our elder one has been going to school even on Saturdays thus we were not able to take any jaunts with kids that we typically do now and then. So a few weeks ago I decided to go for a short vacation but just did not have time or energy to go on a long drive, so we decided to stay for a night at the Taramati [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
