Using Tiger Camera Traps for Tiger Census

How Many Tigers Are There in India ?  If you ask this question to 2316 people you will get 2316 different answers. The NGOs will try to give the smallest possible number and the forest officials will try to give the largest possible number as both have their own reasons directly related to funding, promotion, media miles etc. But the reasons are not difficult to find as to why we do not have the exact number. See a tiger in a jungle has no interest to be counted. Given a choice it will not come to face the cameras [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Anti Poaching Camp in Bandipur Tiger Reserve- A day in life of A Forest Guard

A visit to the Anti Poaching Camp- Bandipur Tiger Reserve As part of our Eco Volunteer Training program we were to visit an Anti Poaching Camp in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. I will not repeat here why anti poaching camps are needed, we all know we have only about 2500 tigers left in the wild and our apex predator is in great danger from organized poaching camps to man animal conflict leading to casualties on both the side. We humans forgetting totally that the tigers were living in the jungle before humans started encroaching and dividing Tiger territory. Our [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Royal White Tigers of Hyderabad Zoo

Pictures of White Tiger from Hyderabad Zoo Park As mentioned in the earlier post on Hyderabad Zoo, we totally missed seeing the White Tiger, as the line to go to that special area was bigger than line for a blockbuster movie.  It seems as a country our obsession with White color  is not limited to humans but also goes for tigers. While the normal tiger is highly endangered in Jungles and wild life sanctuaries of India, Zoos are trying to out-breed each other for the whites. I think a bit of information about White Tigers, should put things in [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Telia Tiger Cub in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

Telia Tiger Cub  Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve- A dip in Lake Recently on a visit to Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve ( TATR), we saw this female tiger cub sitting just a few meters away from path in the shade. We stopped our jeep and started taking her pictures. She was feeling hot and walked right in front of us to take a dip in the Telia Lake. After soaking in water for about half  hour, she majestically got up and walked right in front of me back into the bushes, walking past the motorcycle of a forest guard who [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Queen Of Pench National Park

The Collarwali Tigress of Pench Tiger Reserve Madhya Pradesh is considered to be the heart of India and is home to many national parks like Kanha, Pench, Bandhavgarh, Panna and Satpura etc. While each one has its own specialty I personally love going to Pench National Park there are 2 reasons for me to choose Pench over Kanha and Bandhavgarh ·         First is ease of reach from Nagpur which is well connected to Hyderabad the city I live in, as Pench takes only 2-3 hours compared to more than 5 hours to Kanha. ·         The other reason I like Pench [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
