Dasha-Avatara The Dance Of The Sands

Dr.Anupama Kylash- The Danseuse  I was raised on a healthy staple diet of mythological sagas by my grandparents, which was later supplemented by Uncle Pai’s “Amar Chitra Katha”. Then came the idiot box with a single mission to dumb down the viewers and yours truly meekly obliged. Hence slowly losing touch with all the stories one has heard and read as a child, reaching to the point that one forgot that the original superman was our very own Hanuman who crossed the ocean many millennia ago in search of the beloved of lord Rama.   Any ways enough of my [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

It has 2 claims to fame one is a visit by Guru Nanak Dev the founder of Sikhism about 500 years ago and other is as the former capital of the Bahmani Sultans, one of the first Islamic dynasties in Deccan. This post we will visit Bidar Fort and Gurudwara Nanak Jheera near the Bidar Fort. Tall Shiva Idol at Surendrapuri near Bhongir Fort

Shiva Idol at Surendrapuri Museum of Mythology There is a tall Shiva idol on NH8 on the way to Gurgaon from Delhi, it is a landmark and I have seen it many times. I am not sure how  high it is but always use to wonder if there are other that high statues of Shiva. Some time back I visited Surendrapuri, Yadagirigutta, Andhra Pradesh near Bhongir Fort and there I photographed this another very tall Shiva idol. Not sure which one is tallest or other such tall statues of Shiva or other Hindu gods in the the country. The specialty of this [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Colors Of Bonalu-A Unique Festival of Telangana India

Bonalu A Unique Festival Of Telangana Colors mesmerize me, be it the rainbows formed due to interfaith hugging of green and vermilion gulal with purple water sprouting out of pichkaris on holi or the rainbow formed in the puddles in monsoon. Little Girl With Bonalu Hyderabad is one of the most colorful cities in the country perhaps rivaled only by Jaipur, which obviously has a bias towards pink. But Hyderabad has no such bias it loves all its colors the black burqas of Khatoons from the old city to the Ochre dupattas and multicolored mangal sutras of Marwari ladies shopping in begum [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Visit to Medak Church, Fort and Pocharam Sanctuary

Road Trip to Medak From Hyderabad With GHAC The Medak Cathedral The joys of travel are hard to explain, words cannot capture the thrill of discovering new lands, photos struggle to do justice to the bounty of nature. Yet here I am trying to write a blog about an incredible travel. I guess the next best thing to travel to distant lands is to write and share the stories of falling in love again and again with the places one discover. I specially enjoy driving trips as they give me both flexibility and control not only on the destination [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Around Bhongir Fort- Surendrapuri A Museum of Indian Mythology

A Museum of Hindu Mythology: Surendrapuri We have been living in Hyderabad for some time and I have visited the Golconda fort many times. It has been one of the default historical spot for us to go whenever we were giving a guided tour to our guests both from India or my colleagues from US. Our CTO Tom has been to India many times and he is probably equally familiar with the city of Nizams by now if not more than me. So when this time Tom was in town me and my colleagues were in dilemma what to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Eco Friendly Green Ganesha

Ganpati Celebrations the  Green Ganesha way I have never been one of the religious types, always having a little snobbish image of myself as more of a spiritual than a religious person, totally forgetting that the first step towards spirituality is to leave behind snobbery. Veggee Ganesha Complete With Karela Mouse So I have never been active in the society religious functions, keeping a safe distance from them worrying that the religious fever may infect my spiritual self. Kids Dressed As Ganesha While I was very impressed by the main Idol devoid of any toxic colors, what really made [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

How To Reach Nanded: One can reach Nanded from Hyderabad either via NH7 bypassing Medak Town and then joining the NH16, then taking a left turn from Nirmal on NH 222, the other way is through NH 9 till Sangareddi and then taking the state roads. Since the roads in Andhra Pradesh were good we decided to go through Sangareddi as it was shorter by almost 50 KM. The roads were good but the moment we entered Maharashtra, it dawned on me why the sales of SUVs is increasing in India. If things remain similar India may have to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Road Trip to Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded Gurudwara

A Road Trip to Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded Gurudwara in Maharashtra Inside the Gurudwara When we lived in Gurgaon, there was hardly any month when we will not take a road trip. You drive in any direction from Delhi on one of the excellent highways that sprout out of Delhi. If not a long trip I would go to Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary with kids for bird watching. But when we moved to the city of Nizams due to job change I was discouraged by doomsayers that there is nothing to go from Hyderabad except for the stone hinges around [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
