Review of OPPO F1s – The Latest Selfie Expert
There is a new SelfieExpert in town and desi Traveler gets to review it again. Déjà vu!!! So if you are wondering why I am going so much gaga or a gadget let me share the same with you without any delay. OPPO Mobiles , the global major in mobile phones market has upped the game in India by introducing the latest SelfieExpert in the country and it is called OPPO F1s. The OPPO F1s is the latest offering from OPPO with a positioning as SelfieExpert targeted at the selfie-loving younger folks around the world.
Before I get into the technical details and review of the phone let me take you on a jaunt to Aamchi Mumbai where I attended the launch of OPPO F1s in a star-studded ceremony and JW Marriott Sahar.
The OPPO F1s was launched in the presence of celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Dabboo Ratnani, and Yuvraj Singh. But before the phone was officially launched I want to highlight 2 official announcements by OPPO.
Loved listening to views of Mr @DabbooRatnani about #OPPOF1s camera phone #mobile pic.twitter.com/6Fb89VPoSR

OPPO is a Chinese company with a global presence, they have decided to manufacture OPPO mobiles in India in a new plant in Greater Noida and are investing around 100 Crore Rupees in the manufacturing facilities. Indeed a proud moment for all those who support “Make In India “, I am sure Alisha Chinai who longed for “Made in India” long before Make in India became the buzzword will approve.
The second announcement was even better. OPPO has tied up with YOUWECAN a charity foundation formed by ace cricketer Yuvraj Singh. The YOUWECAN foundation run by Yuvraj Singh works with underprivileged children who are struggling with cancer and helps them financially. Yuvraj who himself is a cancer survivor has started this initiative as a personal project but now it has spread its wings, and as a support to their brand ambassador’s initiative OPPO gifted the foundation Rs 40 Lakhs ( 4 million INR ). I am sure this money will help many a kid whose parents cannot afford the costly treatment of cancer.
The reason I am highlighting these two points here are simple the investment by OPPO in India in a brand new manufacturing unit tells me that they are here for the long run and are looking at India as not just a market to sell but also as a key manufacturing hub. OPPOs support for the YOUWECAN foundation is a positive gesture that highlights that they want to be part of the community in India and not just a seller
Good to know OPPO has contributed Rs 40 lakhs for YOUWECAN foundation of @YUVSTRONG12 for fighting cancer #OPPOF1s pic.twitter.com/vSqdN08laR

Hoping for the best let me move forward and take you to my testing and review of the OPPO F1s. Just like last time I decided to compare the OPPO F1s with the iPhone 6s and invited my fellow blogger Tarun Gaur to test the phone. There are many reasons I invited Tarun to do the testing rather than me doing the same.
While taking a selfie is a simple process and takes only a second or so, comparing selfies from two phones without any bias in different light conditions and clicking images in different light scenarios requires a more robust process that follows same steps without any bias towards any of the phone.
The other reason was Tarun owns and uses an iPhone 6s so he was happy to participate in the test. But as I was enlisting Tarun for the testing of images by OPPO F1s, his wife, and budding Instagrammer Pinky Sharma Gaur also joined us and helped us in testing and clicking the images. This made the project more fun and interesting as now it was a complete entourage for selfie testing. Soon we were moving around and clicking selfies in different light conditions.
So below is the process we followed for comparing on selfies and other images from OPPO F1s and iPhone 6s
- Single Selfie inside the room
- Couple Selfie inside the room
- Couple Selfie with bright background in the background
- Couple selfies in garden in natural light
- Single Selfie inside a restaurant
I picked these scenarios to consider various light conditions for both the front and rear camera and as we will see in the pictures clicked the images speak for themselves.
Though OPPO F1s is primarily positioned as a SelfieExpert the users may use it for other things also so we clicked a few other images both by OPPO F1s and iPhone 6s.
Each image was clicked in quick succession by both the phones so that the light conditions remain the same. The images you see in this post are all directly from the phone with ZERO processing except resizing the images to 1024 px on the long edge for fast loading on the blog. I have not even added a watermark to these images to keep them as close to out of the camera as possible.
OPPO F1s has many filters, including a beautify filter, that I have not used to enhance images at all as I wanted to present the images as it is. If you want to see what the beautify feature of OPPO F1s can do you can here .
The above 2 selfies clicked with a colorful painting of Radha & Krishna in the background against a white wall showcases a few things if you notice. The image clicked by iPhone renders the white wall with an orange / yellow warm tone while the image clicked by OPPO F1s leaves the wall behind as it is without impacting the color of the background.
Besides selfies, we clicked more pictures from both iPhone 6s and OPPO F1s and I am giving them below starting with some snacks that were served with Tea by Wife Jee for the selfie researchers. By the way, after the selfie research, this phone goes to Wife jee as she has also developed a new found love to click selfies thanks to the OPPO F1s.
We also clicked some other images using both the phones to test the main camera and compare the images
In the evening pictures above you will notice that the blues appear saturated in iPhone images but the oranges appear dull, on the other hand with OPPO the blues appear dull but the orange and yellow hues of the sunset are more pleasing.
Overall, in my opinion, it is a close call with both the phones though the outdoor nonselife images appear better by iPhone 6s. But it is the selfies where I am unable to decide which one is better. But then also look at the price. The OPPO F1s is available for preorder for Rs – 17999/- and will be avaialble all over India in retail stores as well as online.
Here are some key features and specs for OPPO F1s , available in Gold and Grey colors

An interesting take Prasad! I need to look at the pictures again!
🙂 thanks
An eye Opener Post for me even in the wildest of my dreams I couldn’t think OPPO can click and beat Iphone 6s !! Loved the pics except the Food ones.
I will try to click better food pics next time 🙂
I am sure this phone will do well with the selfie-obsessed smartphone users. I just remember the Oppo ads with Sonam and Hrithik. They were quite dumb. 🙂
🙂 well as long as people like and buy the phone… the ads seem to be working 🙂
Great review of OPPO F1s, Thanks for sharing both iPhone 6s and OPPO F1s clicks.
Thanks Rupam da.. glad you liked the review…
Move over, cameras! Selfiephones are here! 🙂
🙂 and they are doing a great job
Snack selfies! It’s always nice to hear about companies considered the community as well as making profit!
Thanks Gemma…yes profit + community service is the best combo anywhere 🙂
The selfies look great, also the fact that the company has tied up with Yuvi’s charity is really heartening. Nice to see companies shouldering social responsibilities.
Thanks Vijay.. yes, it is so good to see big corporates like OPPO coming forward and helping the society
Excellent review done. Lots to learn from you Prasad!
Thanks Indrani… we are all learning from each other… 🙂
Good to see both of them. 🙂 I wanted to comment on Tarun’s appearance but that I’ll do in person. 🙂
Yeah, it’s a close call but then as you mentioned price is also a factor to decide.
Thanks Nisha jee.. Tarun keeps on changing his looks as per the season 🙂
