I continue to explore my country and share my experiences of Incredible India on my family travel blog from India as we explore one place at a time by road, by trains and by flying to the various corners of India. Come join me on this incredible Journey in Incredible India from the the snow clad Ladakh in Himalayas to the french enclave of Pondicherry in south as we go covering India from festivals to food and everything in between.

Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar

Restoration of Gobindgarh Fort : A heritage reclaimed On all my previous visits to Amritsar, I wanted to visit Gobindgarh fort, but each time I was discouraged by anybody whom I asked for directions “ Gobindgarh Fort ? Wahan Kuch Nahi hai, Kya karoge waha ja kar”  क़िला गोबिंदगढ़ ? वहां कुछ नहीं है क्या करोगे वहां जा कर Or there is nothing in Gobindgarh Fort , what will you do there ? And as a naïve tourist, who  is happy to be see what he is shown I missed visiting Gobindgarh fort each time. But as I always [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Wagah Border Ceremony Where Emotions Run High

My Experience of Watching Wagah Border Parade I first saw Wagah Border Ceremony with wife jee and daughter and it was a nostalgic trip for us as across the barbed wires and imposing gates she could see Pakistan.  After that, I have watched  Wagah Border Ceremony many times and each time I come back with a different feeling. Situated just 31.5 KM from the holy city of Amritsar, Wagah is not just a border it represents everything that the two nations theory based on religion proposed and succeeded during the Indian freedom movement.  What were one people for more [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Amritsar Heritage Walk - Amritsar Beyond Religion & Food

desi goes with Davinder Singh on Amritsar Heritage Walk This is my first Amritsar Heritage Walk and I am looking at a faint sliver of the sky gives me a weak smile as I stretch my neck to yogic dimensions, as my eyes go wide at all the heritage looking back at me. There is something historical all around me in these narrow bylanes of Amritsar, not the kind of history you find in textbooks but living, breathing, smiling, and unfortunately neglected and deteriorating heritage. I look up to intricately carved wooden balconies with designs from Shekhawati and Europe side [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Virasat-e-Khalsa

A Museum of Sikh History: Virasat-e-Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib Looks can be deceiving, is an old saying and my first reaction on looking at Virasat-e-Khalsa complex was, that it does not look anything like a museum of Sikh culture and history. Only once you enter and reach the top-level after checking all the exhibits that you get a panoramic view of the complex and surroundings, by now you are already in awe of the exhibits and a short tour of the youngest and most reformist faith born in India. You will be forgiven to think initially that the design [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Goa In Reflections

Memories of Goa in Reflections As the mercury dips and the elusive sunlight filters through the canopy of trees, my body wants to go back to the sunny beaches of Goa and watch the reflection of the Sun taking a dip in the Arabian Sea. But here I am in my home, trying to keep warm by guzzling endless cups of ginger tea. So let me go back and remember the sunny Goa from 2 weeks ago where I went for a launch of Zica, the new car from Tata Motors. I have already shared some pictures of the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Kids Who Stole My Heart On A Goa Beach

Laughter & other lessons learned from kids of Child Rescue Center Goa First came the collective laughter that rose above the rapturing waves crashing on the pristine Gonsua Beach, Majorda in Goa. Then came a few worried yet loving screams,” Wait, don’t go too close, don’t enter the water, let me come “ But the collective laughter had the blessings of the Universe that made the pure laughter attract everybody around. It sure got my attention as I ran towards the source of the collective laughter to contribute to the chorus. If there is anything better than laughing alone  then it is to join [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Remembering Paris in Varanasi

Eiffel Tower Replica in Varanasi to pray for peace and Paris Travel keeps on surprising me, sometimes pleasantly sometime emotionally. I was in Varanasi last week to click pictures of Dev Diwali festival,  a celebration to pay respect to river goddess Ganga and a few other Hindu beliefs. As I mentioned in earlier post Dev Diwali festival is the original festival that is now also celebrated in Thailand as Loi Krathong  Festival which finds its roots in Hindu and Buddhist traditions.  As I walked from Assi Ghat towards Sant Ravidas Ghat where Ganga Mahotsav is celebrated, I saw [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
