The Frog and The Princess: A Fairy tale told again

The Princess who saved a frog:  A Modern day fairy tale Once upon a time there was a little girl, her mother called her “Sona” her granny called her “Guddo”, and her dad called her “Princess” Of all the names the little girl loved was “ Princess”, everything else for her was immaterial, so she always failed to react  when somebody called her with one of her other names.  “ Guddo, lower the volume of your TV, I am praying”…. Granny will scream, but Guddo would be busy being Princess, in a fairy tale of her own. “Sona,  drink [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Hatiyan Jhad: The Biggest Baobab Tree in India

Biggest Baobab Tree of India or Hatiyan Jhad: The Cave of 40 Thieves in Golconda Regular visitors to desi Traveler will remember my series on the Old Baobab tree in Nanakramguda. But our Baobab in Nanakramguda is a Baccha ( baby)  when you look at this enormous Baobab that was planted by wandering fakirs centuries ago in Golconda. This huge Baobab tree has a circumference of 25 meters and is almost impossible to photograph in one frame at close distance. This Baobab tree is considered to be the biggest in India and could be the oldest too. I have visited [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Soap Foam like bug: Spittlebug

Spittlebug: The Soap Foam Bug A few days ago I wrote about our visit to the Nature farm where they grow organic food and do not use any chemical pesticides. While walking on the farm I noticed a small foam kind of thing on one of the plants. It was as if somebody was washing clothes and dropped some soapy foam there at best or somebody had spit at worst.  As it was just below a wild flower it was looking rather out-of-place. I clicked a few pictures and was wondering what it could be. I remembered something called Foam [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

New Life for Old Diyas For Diwali - Going for a Green Diwali

Celebrating a Green Diwali – Reusing Old Diyas For Diwali Diwali is around the corner, the biggest festival in India, celebrated by the majority of India in a big way. We will all light Diyas and candles, burn crackers and exchange gifts. But like most festivals in India be it Ganesha Chaturthi, Durga Puja or Kumbh Mela, Diwali also leaves a trail of destruction, pollution, and garbage around us, all in the name of celebration. I  always try to make my travels and life as green as possible in today’s age of fossil fuels. So from celebrating Green Ganesha to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Crimson Rose is not a rose but a Butterfly

A Butterfly called Crimson Rose I still remember  running after a Crimson Rose in the school garden and missing the recess bell. I never caught the butterfly and when I reached my classroom, I was late and the angry teacher asked me to go and stand outside Principle’s office. For me it was a blessing, as I just went back to the garden and started my chase again. If like me you too wonder where all the butterflies have gone, then blame the pesticides used in whatever sorry patches of scrubby greens are left in cities in name of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Human Chain around The Old Baobab Tree Or Kalpavriksha of Hyderabad

Save Old Baobab Tree or Kalpavriksha Of Hyderabad India Have you ever hugged a tree? Well once again early morning I visited the Old Baobab tree with some nature lovers from GHAC Nature. We were planning to form a human chain and hug the Old Baobab tree also known as Kalpavriksha, believed to be brought on earth by Lord Krishna from Heaven, from the garden of Indra the king of devtas or gods. Well it seems the tree that was once associated with gods is now facing a battle for survival like I mentioned in the earlier post. Fortunately [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
