Buddha Head In Tree Roots- Amazing Thailand

Buddha Head in Roots of Bodhi Tree: Some Pictures   It is believed that Buddha attained supreme enlightenment under a Peepal tree in Bodh Gaya, so ever since I first saw the picture of a Buddha Head  in the roots of a large Peepal Tree it was very high on my wish list. So when I was told that I will visit the Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya I could not believe my luck.  As I vividly remember when I first saw the picture of Buddha head in tree roots I could not take my eyes off the same. The moment [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Amazing Thailand In Instagram

One of the things that I starting following actively in Amazing Thailand was Instagram, not that I suddenly discovered my love for Instagram but as almost anywhere you go you get free Wi-Fi so it is very easy to immediately upload your pictures without spending a single penny from your pocket.  I think except for when I was in plane and on a boat to the remote islands in the Gulf of Thailand we were never more than 5 feet away from free Wi-Fi either it was from the Hotels we were staying or the restaurant we went for lunch [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Ganesha In Thailand

Ganesha Worship in Amazing Thailand   In India, we see Ganesha the remover of obstacles in every single temple and most Hindu homes. He is considered to the wise one and remover of all obstacles. When I was visiting Thailand more than a decade ago I was happily surprised to find Ganesha being worshiped in almost all Buddhist temples in Amazing Thailand also. Not only in temples, I found Ganesha idols in front of various homes, shops etc. in Thailand. In Thailand, Ganesha is called Phra Phikanet, but his importance is same as in India.     So in [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Kirikayan Boutique Hotel

A Little Surprise in Koh Samui: The Kirikayan Boutique  Hotel Ah Koh Samui, so many memories, each better than other, every time I want to write about Koh Samui I am in a dilemma – should I write about the clean beaches that are great for water sports and even better to do nothing, or I should write about the eclectic Chewang road with its Thank God Its Friday attitude every single day ? So after the Koh Samui airport let me focus on the hotel we stayed in Koh Samui, the Kirikayan Boutique Hotel, Chaweng Beach. Luckily the hotel is [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Replica Paintings Thailand : Buy the master pieces in Koh Samui

The Replica Paintings and artists of Koh Samui Thailand The Joker with his piercing eyes stares at me sending a chill down my spine, I look away to find The Godfather giving an ear to one of his Consigliere. Only when I find the Buddha in his infinite wisdom smiling benignly I regain my composure, slowly moving my gaze to the New York skyline in Koh Samui. No ladies and gentlemen I was not on a set in Hollywood but in the tropical paradise island Koh Samui in Amazing Thailand and walking the eclectic Chaweng Beach Road, the most happening [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Resort in an Airport: Koh Samui ( USM )

Why I liked Koh Samui Airport and you too would   The moment I got my Visa on Arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport we rushed towards our connecting flight to Koh Samui a tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand. It is a short flight from Bangkok and soon the land gave way to turquoise waters of Gulf of Thailand below and the azure heavens above us. The clouds were playing hide and seek and from the height of 30000 + feet Bangkok Airlines jet was flying, it was tough to say where the kingdom of Zeus ended and the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort

Hotel Review : Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort As I mentioned in my post on my Top 10 experiences in Amazing Thailand that we stayed in some of the finest hotels and resorts during my trip to Thailand on invitation of Tourism Authority of Thailand New Delhi. Elephant Parade Thailand

A creative way to help the Asian Elephants: Elephant Parade Exhibition  India and Thailand share a lot in common right from ancient maritime trade to shared mythology in Ramayana.  Just like India, Thailand is also home to the last few thousand surviving wild Asian Elephants that are very distinct from their bigger cousins found in Africa. No wonder that Ganesha our Elephant headed god is worshiped in both the countries. While staying at Anantara Riverside Resort in Bangkok, I noticed this beautiful golden elephant painted with Buddha all over it.   Suggested reading Ganesha Worship in Thailand   I initially thought [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Checklist for Visa on Arrival in Thailand

What you need to know for getting Tourist Visa on Arrival in Thailand They say travel is the biggest teacher, so there were a few lessons I learned on my recent trip to Thailand. On my last trip I had procured the Visa from Royal Thai Embassy in India, but this time, I thought of taking visa on arrival at Thailand. The Kingdom of Thailand is one of those wonderful tourist friendly countries that allow Visa on arrival for Indians and many other nationalities. The process is fairly simple but here are some of the observations that I made [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
