Statue of Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri - 2nd Prime Minister of India

Lal Bahadur Shastri: An Idol of a Leader Almost every city in India has statues of political leaders, with Bapu Gandhi taking the lead in the same, closely followed by Mrs. Indira Gandhi.  So I was pleasantly surprised to find a statue of a true son of the soil and 2nd Prime Minister of India Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri in outskirts of Varanasi, very close to Ramnagar Fort.  The statue still had a few withered marigold garlands from some function some weeks back, perhaps from his birth anniversary. Later I did some research and found that Shashtri [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Charminar in Reflections

Portrait of an Old Man With Charminar  These pictures were recently taken at Mecca Masjid near Charminar in Old Hyderabad. This old gentleman is a regular to the Mecca Masjid since his childhood and feeds the pigeons there. I requested him to pose for me and here is the result. I was very happy to see the reflection of Charminar in his really cool sunglasses, though a bit of me also came in the frame 🙁 I am deliberately keeping the image sizes to large so that you can see the reflection of Charminar in his Sunglasses clearly. Royal Dining: A Peek at cutlery of the Nizams

How the Royals Dined in Hyderabad The Nizam of Hyderabad was known as one of the richest man on earth during his time. He probably still is, considering his vast wealth spread around Hyderabad and surrounding towns.  I got a glimpse of his Royal Highness’s lifestyle a few days back when I visited the Chowmalla Palace in Old Hyderabad, just behind the Charminar near Lad Bazaar. While a more detailed post is in the works here is a glimpse of some of the Royal Cutlery, that I clicked. As you can see they are made from finest China and [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Kartik Purnima On Varanasi Ghats

Holy Dip on Kartik Purnima at Varanasi Ghats Millions take a holy dip in Ganges on Kartik Purnima. I was  in Benaras or Varanasi this Kartik Purnima and observed these thousands of people taking a holy dip in the chilly waters.  I was feeling shivers just by looking at them. But what amazed me most was that though most of the people were total strangers to each other in such close proximity with hardly any space between them. Yet thousands bathe together in such perfect synchronization, that one wonders who is directing them? And the colors! Oh [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Sunset in Tadoba

Sunset in Tadoba: Stuck  We have a saying in North India, “Aasmaan Se Tapka, Khajoor main Atka”, losely translated it mean: “Fell from sky, but got stuck in the date palm tree”. The gist is that though you have fallen you are still high enough. This is the exact feeling I had when I clicked this picture in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve or TATR. The sun almost appears to be stuck in branches, hence my remembering ” Aasmaan Se Tapka, Khazoor main Atka”, what do you say? A Soap Foam like bug: Spittlebug

Spittlebug: The Soap Foam Bug A few days ago I wrote about our visit to the Nature farm where they grow organic food and do not use any chemical pesticides. While walking on the farm I noticed a small foam kind of thing on one of the plants. It was as if somebody was washing clothes and dropped some soapy foam there at best or somebody had spit at worst.  As it was just below a wild flower it was looking rather out-of-place. I clicked a few pictures and was wondering what it could be. I remembered something called Foam [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Crimson Rose is not a rose but a Butterfly

A Butterfly called Crimson Rose I still remember  running after a Crimson Rose in the school garden and missing the recess bell. I never caught the butterfly and when I reached my classroom, I was late and the angry teacher asked me to go and stand outside Principle’s office. For me it was a blessing, as I just went back to the garden and started my chase again. If like me you too wonder where all the butterflies have gone, then blame the pesticides used in whatever sorry patches of scrubby greens are left in cities in name of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Camel Herders in Town

The Camel Herders are in Town On my way to American Corner in St. Francis college,  I was stuck in traffic, and cursing myself for not      taking the other route. Slowly I inched towards the epicenter of the jam and found 6-7 camels and camel herders hogging the road, oblivious to the chaos around.  While I was trying to practice my anger management 101, the camels discovered something chew-able on the side of road and started munching the Castor oil bushes  they have found. This cleared the road and vehicles zipped passed.  Not me, I now wanted to click [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
