The Sales Room: Book Review

A Humours account of an IT Startup  :  The Sales Room Ok this post has nothing about travels except for the fantasy land escape it offers to you into the mind of 26-year-old Ramesh, a sales manager in a struggling IT project management company.  Now normally I would not worry about reading a book that is largely about the sexual fantasies of a 26-year-old single, ambitious,  and confused guy who cannot decide whether to pursue his dream of a US MBA or to continue to work for the company that is still a start-up even after 10 years. But [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Ibis Delhi Airport Hotel in Aerocity - Hotel Review

Family Trip to Ibis Delhi Airport in Aerocity I have been a bit busy in last some weeks both on personal as well as work front.  So when I got an invitation to visit Ibis Delhi Airport to come and stay my instant reaction was to say no as my elder daughter had her school exams and I was entrusted by the missus to help her with science syllabus (finally something she thinks I can do better than her or this is to make me work ?). But the lady on phone was very persistent and told me that she [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Varpu or Uruli- Reinventing a Kerala Heirloom

Varpu: From Ayurveda & making feasts to decorating hotels One of the first thing I noticed in Kerala in almost every single hotel was a round, shallow vessel filled with water and flowers floating on it. Now it was nothing new as now it is a common practice to find such vessels or Varpu in many places in India. But I had no idea that this tradition also started in God’s Own Country. But like so many things Varpu has also undergone a metamorphosis. Originally  Varpu, a large cauldron made from cast bronze was used to make Ayurveda Medicines [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Portrait of a Lady- How I took these portraits

Story Behind Portrait of a Lady I clicked in Mehrauli Me and Tarun Gaur, my friend from Kerala Blog Express days was with me and we were trying to find our way out of the Jamali Kamali Complex ( Wait for a detailed post). As we were walking we met a group of daily wagers working on the restoration of one of the monuments in the Qutub Complex.  They were all curiously looking at our DSLRs and camera bag etc. It was evening time and the light was beautiful, and  I was wondering if the laborers will agree to get clicked. Delhi Street Art - Hanuman jee and a few other thoughts

Hanuman Jee  in Street Art  Let us once again visit Street Art in Delhi, this time a more structured tiled fresco created in a subway to cross the busy Baba Khadak Singh Marg opposite the ancient Hanuman Mandir and the ever popular Coffee house run by DTTDC. Now acronyms are supposedly designed to help you escape long words and tongue twister, this DTTDC acronym succeeds in doing just the opposite, it is not only a tongue twister but also lazily expands to Delhi Tourism and Travel Development Corporation (or something similar). Don’t agree with me: Try saying DTTDC DTTDC [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Wildlife Seen in Satpura National Park Madhya Pradesh India

Mama Bear with Cubs & other animals seen in Satpura Jungle Safari Some time back I wrote about Denwa Backwater Escape near Satpura National Park, with a promise to write an exclusive post about the wildlife spotting in the park. As the park prepares to open on October 1st for the winter season, I thought it will be the right time for this post. It will not be wrong to mention that Satpura is kind of a hidden gem if a National Park spread in 1400 square KM can be hidden. But compared to its more tourist and media savvy siblings Pench, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Recycled Ganesha in a Car Museum

Eco Friendly Ganesha in his Recycled Avatar Ganapati is a very special festival of India, as it is not just a festival it also has a strong association with freedom movement of India. But even before that Ganapati Utsav was celebrated during times of Shivaji Maharaj and later Peshwas of Pune. But with the fall of Peshwas in 1818, Ganapati Utsav lost significance as a public festival till revived by Lokmanya Tilak in 1893.  Tilak a well-known social reformer and freedom fighter wanted to shape Ganapati Utsav to bring like-minded people together and use the collective consciousness to fight [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Portrait of a Chaiwala

From Chaiwala to Tea Ceremony in Japan With the Japanese Prime Minister Shinjo Abe hosting a traditional Tea Ceremony for our PM Narendra Modi, who started his illustrious career as a ChaiWala, life has come a full circle. I normally refrain from political comments on this blog, but we travelers own a lot to our desi ChaiWalas. On every road trip that we take, we eagerly await for the next Chaiwala, stop the car, order an invigorating fresh ginger, Chai, chat with the ChaiWala and ask about the road conditions ahead. As the chaiwala adds fresh tea leaves to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Johnson Lodge Manali- Hotel Review

A review of Johnson Lodge in Manali, Himachal Pradesh I am not much of a hotel reviewer even though for many years I lived out of hotels and slowly became immune to them, only caring about Wi Fi, paid or free.  But once in a while you come across a hotel that is like they say “It’s Different” So recently I was in Manali and stayed at Johnson Lodge on Circuit House road, for two nights once while going to Spiti to get used to high altitude to avoid AMS, and next on the return trip while waiting for [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Shankar Market Street Art Project - Connaught Place New Delhi

Shankar  Market smiles again with Street Art: Reviving Connaught Place Till 90s Connaught Place was a dream market, you moved around in circles, window-shopping and sometimes buying, drinking milk at Keventer’s, enjoying your stuffed Patties and Pastries at Wenger’s and strolling through the shaded corridors, checking the graffiti made by pan stains ( beetle leaves) on the corners. When you got tired you just lazily sat down on one of the low barriers made from pipes that were not painful for your posterior. Alas like all good things those days came to an end. Soon CP started declining ( CP is short [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
