Book Review of The Reckless Engineer

The Reckless Engineer – by poet and author Jac Wright I grew on a steady dose of Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Canon Doyle and am a sucker for “Who done it” kind of novels. So when Jac Wright, the Edgar nominated author approached me to read and review an advance copy of his soon to be published novel “The Reckless Engineer” I immediately agreed.  The icing on the cake was the story is set in beautiful Scottish and south English coast, which I want to visit ever since I first visited our friends Doug and Doreen outside of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Crimson Rose is not a rose but a Butterfly

A Butterfly called Crimson Rose I still remember  running after a Crimson Rose in the school garden and missing the recess bell. I never caught the butterfly and when I reached my classroom, I was late and the angry teacher asked me to go and stand outside Principle’s office. For me it was a blessing, as I just went back to the garden and started my chase again. If like me you too wonder where all the butterflies have gone, then blame the pesticides used in whatever sorry patches of scrubby greens are left in cities in name of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Ravana on The Roads

Making and Burning of Ravana Dussehra is one festival that has so many symbols attached with it. The winning of good over evil, Ram over Ravana, destroying of demons by women power  in form of Bijoy Dashmi  during Durga Puja. I was talking to my niece and nephew about the same, just when they were going out to watch the burning of Ravana and they sent me some pictures on knowing that I am missing them and burning of Ravan in Delhi. So here they are all clicked by cell phone by my budding photographer niece and nephew [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

We have a large vibrant community of Bengali Bhadralok in Twin Cities, and I was invited by my friends from Utsab Cultural Association for the Durga Puja at Telecom Nagar  Gachibowli.  Actually I would have gone even without invitation as I just love going to Pujor, this reminds me of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Train To Pakistan

When we traveled to see Pakistan We were debating where to go on our next holiday and it soon turned into a heated debate as always. Finally, I said let us take a train to Pakistan and show you the land of your ancestors, to the missus. You see her parents were born in pre-partition India and she sometimes wishes to go and see the village where here forefathers lived. But she brushed this aside as another joke of mine. But I went online to book tickets in tatkal for Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi train and offered to help with the packing of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Camel Herders in Town

The Camel Herders are in Town On my way to American Corner in St. Francis college,  I was stuck in traffic, and cursing myself for not      taking the other route. Slowly I inched towards the epicenter of the jam and found 6-7 camels and camel herders hogging the road, oblivious to the chaos around.  While I was trying to practice my anger management 101, the camels discovered something chew-able on the side of road and started munching the Castor oil bushes  they have found. This cleared the road and vehicles zipped passed.  Not me, I now wanted to click [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
