Incredible India

India Travel Blog with travel tips, stories, food and pictures of travel around India. There is so much to experience in Incredible India that one life time is just not enough. No wonder we Indians believe in reincarnation so that we can visit India again and again to cherish the billion things India has to offer from  Ghats of Varanasi to beaches of Goa and the Colors of Rajasthan to the fragrance of spices in Gods own country Kerala.  Even after visiting more than 22 states in India, I have not seen even the tip of iceberg. I continue to explore my country and share my experiences of Incredible India on my family travel blog from India as we explore one place at a time by road, by trains and by flying to the various corners of India. Come join me on this incredible Journey in Incredible India from the the snow clad Ladakh in Himalayas to the french enclave of Pondicherry in south as we go covering India from festivals to food and everything in between.

An Old Portuguese Church in the backwaters of Champakulam Alleppey

A Portuguese Church in the Backwaters of  Champakulam Alleppey We all know Vasco da Gama was the first recorded European to reach India, bypassing the red sea and Mediterranean, as he sailed around Africa, turned around from Cape of Good Hope and reached Kerala. Though his primary purpose was to find a safe route to India. The route from Red sea though short, had its own issues like high taxes by the countries on the way, passing desert, hiring about 2000 camels to carry the load ( more on this in a later post- how about subscribing by email to get [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Life is a beach: A day in Kerala We were so exited to explore life around our hotel, that me, Shawn and Emanuel decided to meet early morning and go to the beach on Poovar island where we were guests at Estuary Island. Emanuel was so excited that he was in hotel lobby a full hour ahead of the decided time. We crossed the estuary in a boat at reached the beach. But the hard working fishermen of Kerala have beaten us to the beach and they were busy pulling back their nets from the water. Nobody had time [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Numaish For Shopping In Hyderabad

Numaish: Where Hyderabad Goes Shopping Well, let us go to another Hyderabad tradition i.e. the Numaish or the annual Exhibition is called. Numaish Masnuaat-e-Mulki is an Urdu word meaning Exhibition of Local products. Numaish has been a Hyderabad tradition since 1938.  Like all things in Hyderabad, the folklore related with Numaish is also very interesting and motivating. Some graduates from Osmania University got together with the idea to raise funds for conducting an economic survey of the State. The proposal was put before the then Prime Minister of Hyderabad, Sir Akber Hyderi, and he liked it well to raise the money they [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Maut Ka Kuan: Death Defying Stunts at Numaish

Maut Ka Kuan: Death Well At Numaish Well like I mentioned earlier I was at Numaish a traditional fair conducted every year in Hyderabad and one the things that totally zapped me was what we call Maut Ka Kuan or the Well of death. Here inside a man-made huge tub, daredevil motorcycle and car stuntmen defy gravity and perform stunts that will put any Bollywood and Hollywood hero to shame. There are no  helmets or net to protect them in case of an accident. But fortunately these guys practice a lot and using a bit of laws of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Travel Khana: Ordering Food in Indian Trains

Ordering your meals for delivery on Trains in India Regular readers of desi Traveler will know that I have rediscovered my love of traveling in the trains. But two biggest challenges remain in train travel To book Tatkal tickets on IRCTC website The food choices on most trains  Though food on Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains is passable if you are traveling once in a while, the food on other trains is totally dependent on your luck and the contractor serving the route.  Most Indians prefer to bring their own food on the trains, but as many train journeys are [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
