An Evening well spent: SoCh a breeze of positivism We are so used to hearing all kind of negative news, that anything good, positive is totally lost in the cacophony of negativity around us. desi Halloween and memories of Tesu and Jhanji

Halloween in India  I remember when I was a kid in Delhi, we had a fun festival before Diwali in which boys will carry a small toy made of sticks with a clay head called Tesu, who was slain prince from Mahabharata to neighborhood  homes and ask for money or goodies. The girls in turn will have a small perforated clay pot with a small Diya lighted in it and they too will go to the homes in neighborhood and sing ” Jhanji do jee Jhanjee do” The boys will sing: “Tesu do jee Tesu do” and continue something [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

New Life for Old Diyas For Diwali - Going for a Green Diwali

Celebrating a Green Diwali – Reusing Old Diyas For Diwali Diwali is around the corner, the biggest festival in India, celebrated by the majority of India in a big way. We will all light Diyas and candles, burn crackers and exchange gifts. But like most festivals in India be it Ganesha Chaturthi, Durga Puja or Kumbh Mela, Diwali also leaves a trail of destruction, pollution, and garbage around us, all in the name of celebration. I  always try to make my travels and life as green as possible in today’s age of fossil fuels. So from celebrating Green Ganesha to [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Ravana on The Roads

Making and Burning of Ravana Dussehra is one festival that has so many symbols attached with it. The winning of good over evil, Ram over Ravana, destroying of demons by women power  in form of Bijoy Dashmi  during Durga Puja. I was talking to my niece and nephew about the same, just when they were going out to watch the burning of Ravana and they sent me some pictures on knowing that I am missing them and burning of Ravan in Delhi. Train To Pakistan

When we traveled to see Pakistan We were debating where to go on our next holiday and it soon turned into a heated debate as always. Finally, I said let us take a train to Pakistan and show you the land of your ancestors, to the missus. You see her parents were born in pre-partition India and she sometimes wishes to go and see the village where here forefathers lived. But she brushed this aside as another joke of mine. But I went online to book tickets in tatkal for Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi train and offered to help with the packing of [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
