Kochi Muziris Biennale

A day walking in Fort Kochi for Kochi Muziris Biennale Recently in a twitter chat a question was asked : Which city (that you’ve visited) is the best to explore on foot, and why? Without a blink I answered : Fort Kochi, as it is a vibrant city buzzing with art works that is best discovered on foot. Many agreed. I was off course sharing my personal experience of walking the Fort Kochi right from the pier area to all the way to Jew Town, slowly discovering the charms of this jewel of a city whose lanes smell of the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

February 2015 desi Calendar Wallpaper

February 2015 Calendar: Tea Gardens of Munnar So as promised the wallpaper for February 2015 is here, this is one of my favorite pictures from my Kerala Blog Express trip, and clicked in Munnar. Here is a small story about this picture: We were all clicking the beautiful Tea Gardens of Munnar and some of us actually danced like in movies in the Tea Gardens of Munnar.  We were getting late to reach our hotel and so we had to cut short our  song and dance sequence and rush back to the bus. As I was about [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Varpu or Uruli- Reinventing a Kerala Heirloom

Varpu: From Ayurveda & making feasts to decorating hotels One of the first thing I noticed in Kerala in almost every single hotel was a round, shallow vessel filled with water and flowers floating on it. Now it was nothing new as now it is a common practice to find such vessels or Varpu in many places in India. But I had no idea that this tradition also started in God’s Own Country. But like so many things Varpu has also undergone a metamorphosis. Originally  Varpu, a large cauldron made from cast bronze was used to make Ayurveda Medicines [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Sunset over Chinese Fishing Nets Cochin

Photographing Sunset in Fort Kochi behind Chinese Fishing Nets Clichéd it may sound, but a visit to Fort Kochi in Cochin, Kerala is incomplete without clicking a picture of Sunset behind the Chinese Fishing nets. For us visitors ( tourists, travelers take your pick), it is a photo opportunity but for the fishermen of Kerala, it is a lot of hard work. I am not sure exactly when the Chinese fishing nets came to India and when they became ubiquitous on the Cochin Skyline. Today they are kind of symbol of your visit to Fort Kochi in Kerala and every [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Captain Mohan of Our Houseboat in Alleppey

El Capitano of Alleppey Houseboat  Some time we are so engrossed in the beauty of our surroundings that we totally forget about people around us. But is travel only about looking at scenery or shopping, or is it about connecting with the people you meet. One such wonderful person I interacted for a brief while was Captain Mohan of our Houseboat in Alleppey( Official name Alappuzha).  If you have read my earlier posts about our travel in Houseboat you will know what a wonderful experience we had traversing the network of canals in Alleppey. We visited an ancient Portuguese  Church [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
