Kumarakom Lake Resort: A Retreat for the Royals at Lake Vembanad

Kumarakom Lake Resort: The Magical World of Lake Vembanad This is only my second hotel review and a tough one to write. I mean how do you review a resort where the Royals from the House of Windsor spend their time? The first thing I noticed when I was checking in at the exotic patio cum reception of Kumarakom Lake Resort was a picture of smiling Prince Charles. Some time back the longest in waiting for throne, Prince of Wales along with his wife Duchess of Cornwall – Camilla, stayed to celebrate the 65th birthday of the Prince. I think finally [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

My First Kerala Massage

desi gets his first Kerala Massage Folks, here is a different kind of post, about my Kerala Massage, that I experienced in Kerala.  After I finished the post I realized it is not your regular travel blog kind of post. So I emailed  Her Highness of Humor, the multi-award winning blogger, columnist Purba Ray, for a request for a guest post on her insanely popular blog:  A-musing. I wrote the mail and forgot about it for I was very sure she would trash it, I mean we are talking here about A-Musing, the most decorated humor blog in India, [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Kathakali Playing Gods in God's Own Country Travel Tuesday Picture

Bheema and Draupadi in Mahabharata: A Kathakali Performance I have seen Kathakali a few times earlier, but to watch Kathakali in its birthplace is a very special moment for any body who loves performing arts.  So I had my chance when we were at Vivanta by Taj -Kovalam and they organized a show for the guests.  In this particular show the artists portray Bheem and Draupadi from a scene in Mahabharata.  Kathakali is all about expressions and the highly accomplished artists can depict every single emotion known to man by his eyes only.  I say his because almost [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Vivanta by Taj- Kovalam : A Stay in lap of luxury

A Review of Vivanta by Taj- Kovalam, Trivandrum This post is a bit of Nostalgia (with a big N), so please bear with me. There was a time when I lived in hotels and airport lounges; I traveled for 15-20 days in a month.   But most of the time I was too tired to check any of the hotel amenities. My typical schedule would be to  take an early morning flight to my city of destination which could be any major city like Bombay, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Kathmandu etc. go straight for business meeting, either try to take the [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

The Man Who Saw Jesus

Making of Jesus in the Backwaters of Alleppey in Kerala Happy yet humbled at our discovery of the ancient Portuguese church in the backwaters of Alleppey during our Houseboat ride, I and Nelson my friend from Portugal decided to explore  some more around the church.  I was pondering of higher questions like divine, god, religion etc. and one thought kept on coming to my mind, “  God made man or man made God? , if God is one, why do we have so many religions? And how come every religion claims  as the only true one? Can there be more than [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Travel Tuesday Picture: Bloggers dance in Tea Gardens of Munnar

Travel Tuesday: Bloggers Dance in Munnar Today’s travel picture is from Tea Gardens of Munnar, a very important Nilgiri Tea growing hill station in Kerala. I clicked this picture when we stopped our bus in the middle of  Munnar Tea Gardens on both side of road and everybody rushed to take pictures, or in this case, pose for pictures. Munnar tea gardens regularly appear in Mollywood or the Malayalam movies. No points for guessing that Mollywood is the Kerala equivalent of Bollywood. So in the true tradition of dancing in tea gardens, our three blogger friends decided to shake [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

Travel Tuesday Picture: Holi in Kerala

Holi Hai :  International Travel Bloggers Play Holi in Kerala Holi is one of the most colorful festivals of India.  Countless poems, paintings, songs can be found celebrating the joy of Holi. There was a time when no Bollywood movie would be complete without drenching the heroines white sari in colors of Holi.  Even latest movies like  Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, had the mandatory Holi song,  even though they are in the cold mountains of Manali, which was actually Gulmarg. Anyways this post is not about the movie or Holi in movies, it is about how Holi is considered  an [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]

A Gandhian and a Plantation Homestay in Wayanad Kerala

The Gandhian Who runs a Plantation Homestay & promotes Eco Tourism in Wayanad The Azure sky above and the colorful attire of Kerala Express Bloggers are the only challengers to the monopoly of green during our plantation visit in Wayanad. We are touring a plantation that grows spices like Pepper, Areca nut, coffee, and fruits like coconut, banana and many more. The plants around me are showing stress due to a rain-less month, and at 34 degree Celsius, Wayanad is making a new high compared to the average of  30 degrees. We cross paddy fields that soon bow out to a serpentine [Continue Reading By Clicking Here…]
